This evening, I joined His Highness, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for a crucial bilateral meeting to strengthen and expand the growing relationship between Nigeria and the UAE. Our discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest and exploring opportunities to deepen our economic ties, foster innovation, and enhance collaborative efforts that will benefit Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE has proven to be a vital partner for Nigeria, and this bilateral meeting highlights our shared commitment to advancing strategic partnerships that promote sustainable development, trade and investments, regional stability, and prosperity for all. The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to global sustainability efforts, and I extend my congratulations on the remarkable success of this year’s ADSW and Zayed Sustainability Prize. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day allows us to express our gratitude and pay tribute to our ex-servicemen and women who selflessly sacrificed their lives to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria and other nations. Our nation is in dire need of peace, and so is the World. As we mark this solemn event today, remember that people laid down their lives, and many still do so to guarantee our peaceful co-existence. Therefore, let us eschew violence and divisive tendencies for a peaceful and prosperous nation. Let us all become ambassadors of peace. We can build a future of hope and optimism together, where peace and unity reign supreme. Thank you, and long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our government remains steadfast in providing modern weapons and ensuring proactive operations through improved synergy among our security and intelligence communities. I joined His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and other world leaders at the opening of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) and the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony where a Nigerian SME, Nafarm Foods, won the Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Food Category for their work developing scalable hybrid solar food dryers that preserve food and reduce CO2 emissions. Another Nigerian entrant, D-Olivette Global Enterprise, was a finalist in the Energy category and was recognised for their work on an IoT and AI-assisted innovative waste management solution that improves collection efficiency by 40%. I congratulate both SMEs for doing Nigeria proud.

This evening, on the eve of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, I had meaningful conversations with Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Africa has what it takes to develop itself. We have the resources, the people, and the capacity. We must look inward to improve intra-African trade and collaboration to benefit the African people and the continent. The time for Africa is now. We can. We must. We will. #AfricaRising

Just slightly over three weeks ago - 24 days to be precise, I presented the 2025 budget proposals to the joint session of the National Assembly themed, “2025 Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity” As I said to our Federal Legislators, we are building a Nigeria where peace reigns, opportunities abound, and every citizen can dream, work, and thrive in safety. We have to move forward, not as individuals but as one united nation, determined to rewrite our story for the generations to come. To quote a section of my speech that speaks to our outlook for the future of our great nation, Nigeria, “The time for lamentation is over. This is a time to act. A time to support and promote greater investment in the private sector. A time for every Nigerian to look hopefully towards a brighter future because a new day has dawned for us as a nation.” Together, we have embarked on a journey of transformation and reform, and while the road has not been easy, the progress we have made is undeniable.” ~ PBAT

Today, I celebrate the remarkable life of Mr. Frank Abiodun Aig-Imoukhuede, OON, a national treasure and cultural icon, as he marks his 90th birthday. Celebrating 90 years today, Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s remarkable journey highlights the impactful combination of dedication, creativity, and service to his country. As the first Nigerian university graduate to join the Daily Express, he broke new ground in journalism. His subsequent roles, including Nigeria’s first Cultural Officer and Director of the National Council for Arts and Culture, have significantly enriched our cultural and literary landscape, inspiring future generations to contribute to our heritage. Through iconic achievements such as organizing FESTAC ’77 and penning literary classics like Pidgin Stew and Sufferhead, he has preserved the essence of the Nigerian and African experience for generations to come. The sun is out, and the sky says daylight, but I see today a Black star rising high in the African sky. This black star shines over this nation, and its rays spread across this Continent with a sense of shared history, hope, compassion, unity, and devotion to our common welfare. We celebrate African Democracy today as Ghana and her beloved people mark the transition from one democratic government to another. It is time that Africa’s critics stop forgetting the strides your nation, Nigeria and others have made by continuing to ask us to prove ourselves. We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. While others may seek to demean Africa and keep brother pitted against brother, that shining star reminds us of who we are. Better yet, it reminds us of who we can be. I am confident that the new government, under the leadership of President John Mahama, will work with Nigeria to strengthen this powerful bond, leading to greater shared prosperity for our people. President John Mahama and I share a deep friendship. My dear brother, I am here to work with you. You know you can count on Nigeria’s support and goodwill whenever needed. The bond is strong and cannot be broken. With laser focus, we can tackle our people’s most pressing concerns: poverty, youth unemployment, instability, insurgency, and many other problems hampering our desired progress. May Ghana’s democracy continue to grow stronger. May progress and prosperity be your portion. Let us all look forward to a future filled with hope, opportunity, and prosperity. God bless Ghana and its Beloved People. God bless Nigeria and its Beloved People. God bless ECOWAS. God bless our Beloved Africa.
