After I was cut from the Steelers, I wandered, directionless. One day, my Mummy brought me a tattered notebook that held a list: "When you grow up... 1. Play football in the NFL. 2. Become a neurosurgeon."
"This one is done," she said, tapping the first entry. "Now this one."
When I was in college at Florida State, my defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews taught me to make small progress each day. That same approach – called the 2% Way – helped me learn to do brain surgery.

Graduated from neurosurgery residency today! Alongside some amazing co-residents and lifelong brothers in Drs Hadzipasic and Talati! What a blessing. Thank you to my family, friends and mentors. Thank you, Dr Carter. And thank you Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical

video is a perfect representation of you! When you recruited me, you promised my family that you’d support me as a football player AND as a student. You helped ALL of us be better men, leaders, and Christians. We love you, Coach. Thank you for everything!
STORY TIME! I was on a plane recently. Passenger started feeling ill. Flight attendants asked for any medical professionals on board. I alarmed my call bell and said I was a physician. Another physician alarmed as well. We descended on the passenger who, after a physical exam and

Random thought: At FSU we had our big Seminole logo on the floor of our locker room. Unofficially, we were forbidden from stepping on it. Only Bobby Bowden could. And he never did either. Now, whenever I see ANY big logo on a floor..I avoid it. Trained like Pavlov lol

This older black lady saw my MGH/Harvard Neurosurgery jacket. She began to well up. "It makes me so proud to see that. Growing up, people like us weren't able." I'm not the best at this neurosurgery thing, nor probably ever will be. But meeting her makes me work even harder!
I am at the best neurosurgery residency in the US! My Chairman, faculty, APPs and fellow residents have allowed me to serve as a member of our MGH Global Disaster Response Team to give quality medical care to my homeland - the Bahamas. Excited and poised to make an impact!

Former Florida State and NFL linebacker Geno Hayes, who had been under hospice care at his parents’ home in Georgia, died Monday evening from liver disease at 33.
It’s been almost cathartic for me to write this book, put everything on paper, and be open and exposed while hopefully giving people the encouragement and the light to continue to move forward in their own personal journey.
My whole life has led up to this one milestone which I’m excited to finally let you all in on. On May 15th, I have an exciting announcement for you all! Check out the link in my bio and drop your email to be the first to know!

On rounds this morning. Did a mental status exam (asked patient if they knew their name, place, date). Ended by asking who is the POTUS? They said Joe Biden w/ a head nod and wink. I returned the nod and wink. When you know, you know. We had a moment.

Dear aspiring athlete: compete just as hard as you can. But think also about where football is taking you. Even if you made it pro, your career may be short lived – and that’s OK. There’s life after sports.
Next thing I knew, I was in medical school, becoming a neurosurgeon.
On ESPN’s First Take today talking NFL/COVID and more! Very cool to be on a show that I watch regularly. Hope this segment is informative for you!

Bill Walton called to tell me that I was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All America Hall of Fame inductee. It was the first time I ever spoke to him, but he was proud of me, happy for me. It came thru loudly. Even in a 10min phone call. What a guy! He made my day! Rest easy, Bill

Its troubling to hear the news call this rich middle aged white man "a marijuana entrepreneur" as they tour his weed business. While poor black and brown people are still "drug dealers" and can give that reporter a tour of his/her jail cell.
We did it!!! The inaugural HONOUR ROLLE Retreat was a success!

My final Rhodes Scholarship interview was on the same day as an away game. Birmingham was a 2-hour flight from Maryland. When I asked to borrow a private jet, T. K. Wetherell said, "You better win the game and the scholarship. And you better parachute onto the fifty-yard line."
What a day!!! Registered soooo many brilliant UCF students to vote!! At the Big12 home opener vs Baylor. Online (scanning QR codes), paper, and even had people update their vote-by-mail status. Getting the next generation involved, elevating their voices through voting. Orlando

My cousin Samari told me that when they beat UF (the UF with Ike, Reidel, Jacquez, Fred T, Wuerffel) they didn’t want to play them again in the National Championship. Knew it would be tough. It was. Wonder if Bama feels the same way about UGA??
