Tone deaf @SXSW response to @UMAW_ /@MusicWorkers#FairPay Campaign makes Marie Antoinette look woke! We're workers fighting for our economic survival & dignity:not moonlighting dilettantes. We generate 100’s of million for SXSW & City of #Austin & we're fed up w being exploited
Here's @sxsw arguing they don't need to pay artists because we all love their wristbands: "We're trying to create a milieu, a community during the festival so that artists can really make a decision-- is this my career, or do I need to back to medical school or whatever it is?"

On 9/18 at 5pm, MWA will host a Labor Organizing Training for Indie Musicians. Join expert labor organizer Phil Andrews as we discuss organizing methods, v. advocacy v. activism, and how to talk about collective action with other musicians to build power!

It's expensive to make records. We're not trying to make it harder. - You can still recoup the costs - You can still afford the musicians you want, if they agree to work under these guidelines - If your track does well, everyone who made it will be happy

Yes, it is really hard to make a record in today's music economy, but we must come together by guaranteeing fair treatment in our own communities. We have to stop this race to the bottom. This is step one. Sign the pledge now.

What is the pledge? Meet at least 1 of 3 conditions: -A minimum pay rate of $85/hr with a 3-hour call. -All musicians performing on a track are guaranteed an equal share in the profits generated by that recorded track. -The appropriate AFM contract.
