Alfie Whyles says he’s ‘on the road to where I want to be’, after benefiting from work experience at UHL through our @KingsTrust scheme. Alfie gained a permanent job as a waiting list coordinator in general surgery, after his successful four-week placement.

Three ‘mouthcare champions’ are maintaining high standards of oral care for patients on the Kinmonth Unit, at the LRI. The role was created as part of Mouthcare Matters, a project led by Improvement Officer, Louise Castle, of the Leicester Excellence Accreditation Framework team.

NHS England’s Chief Midwifery Officer, Kate Brintworth and colleagues visited our maternity units this week to hear about the improvement journey taking place at UHL. As part of the visit, they officially opened the new theatre in the delivery suite at Leicester General Hospital.

Members of our catering team have been visiting local schools to demonstrate the art of cooking, as part of the Chef Academy scheme. Retail Catering Production and Development Manager, Eddie Makuwaza said: “Hopefully, we’ve inspired the students to consider a career in catering.”

Cancer nurses and colleagues from @MacmillLeics have been raising awareness of cancer symptoms, screening and treatments as part of #WorldCancerDay. The team had stalls in the restaurants at our three acute hospitals to share information with patients, visitors and colleagues.

Consultant Emergency Physician, Dr Ffion Davies, has received a medal from @RCollEM, in recognition of her significant contribution to the College’s work. Throughout her career, Ffion has encouraged collaborative work to promote excellence in emergency medical practice.
