Local students, especially high school seniors, are playing the โSenior Assassinโ game, using water guns, airsoft guns, and slingshots to โassassinateโ their classmates. The last person standing often wins a cash prize. However, this game poses extreme risks. On Wednesday morning, an off-duty FDLE agent shot an 18-year-old Bishop Kenny student-athlete in the arm after spotting him and two others on her property in Nassau County before sunrise. He was carrying a dark airsoft gun wrapped in blue masking tape. Investigators believe she mistook it for a real firearm. Thankfully, the student is expected to recover. Charges will not be filed, as the homeowner was lawfully protecting her property. This is why Northeast Floridaโs sheriffs and police chiefs are standing together with State Attorney Melissa Nelson to warn students and parents: ๐๐จ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐. @SAO4Florida @NCSO_FL @ccsofl @DuvalSchools @OPPoliceDept @NeptBchPolice

Your #JSO has arrested 20-year-old Rodney Wesley after his actions led to a deadly pileup on I-295, killing a 66-year-old motorist and causing the interstate to be shut down for hours. Earlier this month, Wesley stole a manโs Lexus while he was filling his tires with air. That vehicle was found abandoned the next day. A few hours after the Lexus was found abandoned, officers were called to a gas station on 103rd Street for an armed carjacking. The victim told officers Wesley approached him with a gun before Wesley drove off in his car. Hours later, there was a pileup crash on I-295 North, involving the victimโs stolen vehicle going the wrong way on the interstate. A 66-year-old motorcyclist was killed after Wesley hit him with the stolen vehicle. The motorcyclist was then hit by another vehicle driving behind him. This caused a pileup on the interstate, forcing it to be shut down for hours. Wesley tried to steal another car after the pileup but was unable to. He escaped the scene by riding on the outside of a semitruck in the area. Working closely with our partners at the Florida Highway Patrol, detectives were able to connect Wesley to all three crimes using evidence at the scene and a photo lineup with the man whose vehicle had been stolen at the gas station. FHP and JSO worked together to search the city for Wesley. Last week, JSOโs Gang Unit and Community Problem Response Unit spotted Wesley riding a bicycle in the Jacksonville Heights neighborhood. Officers told Wesley to stop, but instead he ran to hide behind a shed. Our K9 officer used his Police Service Dog, Doxa, to take Wesley into custody. Wesley is now behind bars at the Duval County jail, facing multiple charges including six felonies such as Vehicular Homicide, Grand Theft Auto, and Armed Carjacking. We will work closely with the @FHPJacksonville and the @SAO4Florida to make sure justice is served in this case. Detectives continue to investigate to see if heโs connected to other crimes in our area. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the man killed.

๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ A Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office sergeant shot and wounded a wanted suspect who drove his vehicle toward him Tuesday afternoon. ย It happened around 4pm on Gossett Street on the Northside.ย District 6 patrol officers were conducting a follow up to a traffic stop involving the suspect who had previously fled from police. When Sergeant Ben McEwan made contact with the suspect, the suspect backed his vehicle between a trailer and fence. The sergeant ordered the suspect multiple times to get out of the car with his hands up. The suspect did not listen; instead he reversed his vehicle then drove toward the sergeant. Thatโs when the sergeant fired multiple shots.ย The suspect continued to drive forward before coming to stop. He got out of the car onto his hands and knees. While he was on his hands and knees, he asked nearby residents for a cigarette. The suspect was given emergency medical aid before he was taken to the hospital. At last check, he is in stable condition.ย The suspect is 29-year-old Michael Youmans, a white male. Youmans has a 13-page criminal history, including charges of resisting arrest with and without violence, theft, burglary, and drug possession.ย This is the first Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office officer-involved incident of 2025. The State Attorneyโs Office is now conducting its investigation into the incident.ย JSO will also conduct a separate investigation. ย Per Sheriff Watersโ commitment to transparency, JSO intends on releasing the body worn camera footage of this incident within 21 days.

Patrol officers responded to a disturbing scene on 15th Street West in the Mid-Westside area, where they found 51-year-old Erika Winford unresponsive, wrapped in a blanket and towels in the backyard. She had suffered a gunshot wound and was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers detained Cobb as he attempted to leave the home. Following an interview, detectives arrested him. He is now in custody at the Duval County Jail. Cobb, a 6-foot-9 former college basketball standout, played for UConn and the University of South Carolina. Your JSO will work closely with the State Attorneyโs Office to seek justice for Ms. Winfordโs family in the wake of this tragic crime.

45-year-old James Antonio Hunter has been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Sierra McKenzie as well as a double shooting days earlier. On January 23, patrol officers were called to a home on College Circle South off Kings Road. They found McKenzieโs body in a pool of blood on the sidewalk. The Medical Examinerโs Office ruled she died of a gunshot wound. Earlier this month, the U.S. Marshalโs Task Force took Hunter into custody for two outstanding arrest warrants. JSO homicide detectives collected evidence from the scene of McKenzieโs murder to connect Hunter to her death. Investigators used our cutting-edge technology to not only arrest him for McKenzieโs murder but link him to other crimes. Robbery and Violent Crime Unit detectives have also charged Hunter with shooting two people in the head during a home invasion robbery on Main Street in the Brentwood neighborhood just 4 days after McKenzie's murder. Both victims survived that double shooting. Hunter is now behind bars in the Duval County jail, facing multiple charges including Murder and attempted murder. We will continue to use every resource possible to catch killers, reduce violence, and bring families justice.

๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ด๐จ If you choose to run, youโll just go to jail tired. ย When 25-year-old Jordan Wilson tried to hoof it after handing off illegal drugs, he didnโt count on your #JSO Mounted Unit being hot on his tail. Police Service Horse Nash, with Officer Cassie Haire in the saddle, galloped into action, proving that criminals can run, but they canโt hide from our horsepower! ย After a quarter-mile chase, Wilson decided to rein it in and surrender to Officer Zackary Maryland. While Nash is the star of the video, we want to give a big shoutout to fellow crime-fighting steeds Jaxx, Judge, and Duke, for making sure justice was the mane priority. ย Our Mounted Unit doesnโt just horse aroundwhen it comes to crime! ๐๐ฎโโ๏ธ #GiddyUpJustice #JSOMountedUnit
