It’s Little Richard’s songs that pioneered rock’n’roll. I got to hear him and his band at the Newport Lounge in Miami and boy were they good.
I’m sad to hear today of the passing of Wilko Johnson, the Dr Feelgood guitarist and singer/songwriter.
I saw Wilko perform at Koko in Camden in May 2013 and the atmosphere was electric. This show was originally billed as his farewell tour
On this day in 1978, I was producing In Through the Out Door at Polar Studios in Stockholm. When we arrived it was well into their winter, there was heavy snow in the streets and very, very cold. Polar was a state of the art studio for its time, but not particularly ambient.

On this day in 1988, the Outrider tour passed through London at the Hammersmith Odeon. Over the years, the building has been named after Labatt's, Carling, HMV now Eventim. No matter what it is called, it will always be a bastion of rock and roll venues!

I was invited to Ronnie Woods’ house in Richmond to do a session in October 1974. It was said that Keith Richards and Ian Stuart (Stu) would be there.
On this day in 1986, I appeared with Bad News at the Hammersmith Odeon, with the a fictional English heavy metal band supporting heavyweights Iron Maiden. During my bit, my amp mysteriously cut in and out but it just added to the comedy of the send up!

On this day in 1994, I appeared with Robert Plant on Asahi TV in Japan. In line with the Unledded project, an elaborate press junket was set up for Japan, Australia, Argentina and Brazil with a whistle stop journey for promotion.
Earlier this week JP and photographer Neal Preston hand-signed these limited edition Fine Art Prints from Led Zeppelin’s performance at Nassau Coliseum in 1975.

On this day in 1984, I played the Rock Garden with Roy Harper, in what was the recently opened Covent Garden complex in London. Roy had given me this Ovation 1984 model and I played this guitar with him on the set.
But now this was it. There was no warm-up gig; it was time to reveal the work we had put into the rehearsals and the set.
