Our farm exports food to sustain 300,000 people, and i-paddock's machines and technology support thousands of other farms across the globe. Do the maths
The quiet achiever of our family has just moved to the next world.
Dad, Rocky Fels, started farming in the 50s, clearing The Oaks when Esperance was pop. 250. Proud to the end, but never vain.
PLEASE - don't reply, or feel you have to get in touch. He wanted no fuss.
RIP.
To every agency that wants to ask why adoption of Precision Ag is so slow. Its because the nerds who develop it think this is acceptable.
When will they realise farms don’t have an IT department
The entire identification of the chemical in this 110L drum relies on a non adhesive plastic wrap. Which has evidently come off and been taped back on before it even made it out of the shop.
Change is needed

If you're interested in some analysis of machine size, I can confirm that 2 Lexion 8800s are doing more each day than we used to with 3 CRs.
It's all good and well to convince yourself when buying something, but nice to see it actually translate. Simpler operation to run as well
We will be seeding close to Esperance this week, taking visitors if you are interested in having a look at
#alphadisc24
. This thing is a beast!! 💪🏻💪🏻👌🏻😎💨💨
60 foot Midwest with
#ipaddocktyphoon
and
#ipaddockauger
hoovering it up at a comfy 7kph. There's a hollow in the middle where a mound normally sits.
Feeding the hungry beast

A question I often get stacking grain is what happens when it rains on an open heap. This is our seed barley stack, around 250t, just had 40mm rain on it. No sign of any moisture ingress at all. I expect a green tinge on the ground around the edge but loss should be almost nil.
$1000 for a new steering column for the cruiser, amazingly sourced a UJ from Hardy Spicer for $70 and its good as new.
If you're worried about emissions, how about we deal with our ridiculous throwaway culture and actually start repairing things again.
24m
#alphadisc
reseeding some canola in 4 year cereal stubble. Rides at 14kph like you would expect when you have 64 hydraulic suspension arms! You could balance a cup of tea on the boom.
My first time not driving this thing, great to see it from another angle!
Exciting seeing the first wheat emerging now from my new
#alphadisc
2.0 units. I don't think I've ever had wheat come up as homogeneous as this. Also good to see about a 45mm wide spread in each row. Effective row spacing under 6"👌🏻. Pre em here was Tref Sakura
Feeling a strange mix of satisfied, relieved & slightly surprised having pulled off an 11000Ha
#pb
with effectively a single rig this seeding. Sincere thanks for a flawless effort from a very tight & endlessly obliging crew.
6300Ha next year will feel like a holiday
#lovefarming
Impressed so far with the Hummingbird drone weed mapping aka virtual weed sensors for our SP sprayer. Running our sections through the JD rate controller. Thanks Scott and Pete for making it happen promptly. $4/Ha makes sense when we only have to spray ⅓ of the paddock.
The scale of my wild 24m
#alphadisc
toolbar actually hit me today. Called in
@CollierMiller1
in lovely Griffith with
@babart1977
to check on progress. (That is one impressive
#ageng
operation they have there btw).
Now to have it ready in time for
#seeding2020
🤞
Got the big girl rumbling again! 5th season now, 23,000Ha with this 24m machine, putting my money where my mouth is😃
To date total maintenance on the
#ipaddockalphadisc
units has been:
Greased 4x (1/ year)
1 set of discs
That's it. Basically nil preseason. Made by a lazy cocky
Check out this beast of an
#alphadisc
machine setup in the southwest of WA this year. Loving the creativity with the converted tbh Morris aircart. Big& small, we've got it all!
Anyone who has crawled through a 2 rank disc seeder to check hoses will appreciate this. 29 seconds to check 128 runs in 1 straight line. Another one of my pet hates checked off with

! ✔️
My daughter was asking me today if our farm was good or bad for the environment, and as I was explaining how tillage reduces soil Carbon it occurred to me that that is the case we have to make for Glyphosate. Losing Gly will speed up climate change

March sown lupins. It sort of validates the idea of early sown long season varieties in our new climate when we’re busting bricks dry sowing cereals now. At least we’ve got a little patch of green to look at
How good is this picture. Setup live streaming of the seeding so Dad can watch it from his lounge room. That is so nice!
With the woeful state of screened TV these days, there are certainly worse ways to pass the time.
They all have their moments, but in nearly 2000 hours I can't think of too many times she has stopped for repairs. The front especially stands out for reliability. Pretty decent machines in balance
#claas
It might be as dry as a wooden god, but it is only April. One good rain some time in the next month still gives us fair odds of a decent crop.
Just in case you're feeling a bit cheesed off with the current state of play 🙄
Turns out the Esperance main grid was installed 60 years ago with 24/48m ctf in mind. Whats the odds of every pole lining up exactly with the edge row?? This was clearly the seeder I was always meant to have
Thankyou twitter: you lads& ladies out there are awesome. I appreciate your company on the long days, and learning from you & the intelligent, timely discussions. Plus a bit of a p-take & a laugh along the way. Its a true community👍🏻🍻
Testing the 12m bespoke

bar built by
@AgGear
in Ararat today, in close to the furthest conditions from what I designed the units for!
*Challenge accepted.
Folks, I think we have a bar option for 2023 👍🏻
There's not many 15Ha/hr seeders you can pull with a 7930
On this business about social media being negative. If you find social media negative you are following the wrong people. Remember, you get to choose!
I find twitter a daily source of hilarity and inspiration. Just the tonic for a tough season
Should you stay off social media in Dry Times? To know others are in the same boat as you isn’t a bad thing in my view! Clearly all pics of emerging crops should be banned!!
@ABCRural
First time ever I have finished my wheat program before the first paddock has even emerged (in moist conditions). Was good fun to hit our high note in this thing on the home straight
#alphadisc24
If ur behind on ur summer spraying, hit the productivity button. 30L/Ha through TT015 jets at 0.5m height & 30kph does an absolutely schmick job every time here. I don’t care what theory says its wrong- it works & its fast. At least try a test strip

If anyone within about a 100km radius of here has a

for

mext week give me a call.Spaded, ripped, gnarly clay, dry seeding, mud, straw, dam catchments whatever! Be great to give it a flogging and see how it performs. No doublegees or snails please😉
Left= 3 Springs
Right = Esperance
Both germinated on the same rain at the end of May
Takes some recalibrating when I drive out of one and into the other
25 years today.
@MarnieFels
should be up for a gold medal not silver ❤️Many amazing times, & hopefully many more ahead.
Our 10yo son said it best: “How do you get married? Do you get a whole group of people then pick the nicest one? Thats what I would do”
Worked for me
Peace of mind storing these nasties in a self bunded

, just in case something springs a leak. Makes finding them easier as well with our sophisticated labelling system. Also means a dirt floor is acceptable even for ISCC
Apparently Christmas has been extended in Australia

. Trying to get some things done here, but turns out most businesses close from tomorrow until the 6th January. No wonder our GDP is sluggish. I never realised Aussies were so religious
3rd August would have to be a record late break to the season, but what it lacked in timing it made up for in elegance. 68mm gets us back in the race on anything that germinated properly.
I hope others who need it, get it
Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. I decided to do. Hoping swathing 1000t worth might give us a pile of nice low moisture in case we (probably will) need it to finish our barley

I have limited numbers of the all new hydraulic
#alphadisc
2.0 units available for this season, if anyone is interested get in touch.
With hydraulic downforce and parallel lift, these all new units are very cool 😎.
My 24m machine will have 64 units on it and I can't wait.

I'll second that. A lot of the quiet achievers have left because of all the opinion and vitriol that has infiltrated what used to be a great info sharing platform. Can we turn it back around?
