DOGE is boasting about a $110 million save after weeks. They'd need to do this every 30 minutes for a year if they were going to ACTUALLY cut $2 trillion like they promised.
Today, 78 contracts were terminated for convenience across DEI, Non-Performing, Media, and Consulting categories, including one for “groundwater exploration and assessment in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.” Approximately $110mm of total savings.

@AdamMinter @WhichUK That really comes across in the reading! I'm a passionate secondhander (currently trying to renovate a house using as much Freecycle as possible) and it was good to read something that takes a critical eye to an industry that everyone would rather ignore.

6,266 bank branches have closed in the last 10 years - more than six in ten. We now have 3x as many red kites in the UK than we do bank branches. Banking hubs can plug a lot of this gap but it's like sewing the parachute after jumping out the plane.

Glad I was able to highlight this element of smart tech. I'm a big fan of anything smart but the same tools that make me more free can be used to imprison others. Protections need to be designed in from day one.
