Frogs across Ireland are emerging from hibernation and migrating to various breeding sites. The males arrive first and croak loudly & consistently to attract females.
There will be a lot of frogs on the road making this perilous journey. Please be careful to not injure them! 🐸
Irish waters are being damaged by nitrogen from fertilisers & manures, and phosphorus from agricultural runoff & wastewater discharges. These cause an overgrowth of plants & algae, clogging up our waters and using up oxygen which harms fish & aquatic life:
1. There was no real improvement in the quality of Irish rivers or lakes in 2022.

Last October, over 700 citizen scientists measured traffic pollution in Cork City. Results show higher nitrogen dioxide levels are linked to higher traffic volumes. None indicate a breach of EU air quality limit (40 µg/m3).

EPA has published its 2020 Water Indicators Report. 1,836 river water bodies were assessed in 2019 & 2020 with 345 improving in biological quality and 230 declining. The large numbers of declines in quality are off-setting progress being made: Full report:
