I was blessed with the most precious gift three years ago today - my beautiful daughter, Olanna. These past three years have been filled with so much love, laughter, and countless cherished moments. She completed our family. Being a mother to three wonderful children and watching them blossom has been one of the greatest joys of my life. When we decided to have a third child, I was convinced that after two boys, I would be having a third boy. I was prepared for it. I wasn’t prepared for the sonographer saying to us: ‘Well, congratulations, it’s a girl’! From the moment those words landed until now, they have fuelled my motivation to advocate for women's and girls' empowerment. I am even more determined to create the change I want to see in a world that has not been designed for women and girls to thrive. This is where my fire comes from. My little girl is one of my biggest motivations - and I love her exactly the way I love her two big brothers. Here's to many more years of love, laughter, and endless adventures with you baby girl. 🎂🎈 HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY #June21 #Birthday #Family #Celebration #Milestone #HappyBirthday #motherhood

Do you know the secret to achieving greatness? Here’s a hint: it’s not just hard work. Shannon Sharpe, three-time Super Bowl Champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer, recently shared his insights while receiving the 'Impact Award' at the Heroes of Media Awards Dinner, hosted by Hero Media Inc. at the @CarltonCannes (tag). "I believe in order to be great, you must possess TWO THINGS: 1. Obsession & 2. Consistency" While he acknowledged that a strong work ethic is essential, he emphasised that it alone does not guarantee greatness. I cannot recall any recent events that gave me goosebumps from start to finish! I was honoured to spend the evening alongside individuals who embody excellence, including Tabitha Brown, whose approach to life deeply resonates with me, and esteemed DJ and activist Derrick “D-Nice” Jones, recipient of the 'Vanguard Award'. A heartfelt thank you to my dear friends-turned-sisters, @AliaKemet, Chief Marketing Officer extraordinaire and all-round Boss woman, who literally gave me a seat at the table, and @LaurenMaillian, another phenomenal trailblazer whose incredible team organised this spectacular event. It was truly a night to remember! I am grateful for the beautiful and growing relationships I have with my US community. Regardless of political outcomes, I am seriously considering a potential relocation (just kidding, of course 😆). To all my friends in the US, both old and new, know that you are always welcome to reach out if the winds of fate bring you to the UK! Until next time… #Cannes #HeroesOfMediaAwards #BlackExcellence

Do you know the top 3 things women want? 1️⃣ Health (SDG 3) 2️⃣ Education (SDG 4) 3️⃣ Peace, Justice, & Strong institutions (SDG 16) At the annual Goal 5 #GenderEquality dinner hosted at Goals House in Cannes. @annemarie_hou, Executive Director @UN Office for Partnerships, shared the results of a recent survey that included women in many remote parts of the world and conflict areas whose voices were heard, even without access to smart phones or the internet. The conversation focused on the essential collaborations that can accelerate progress for Gender Equality including the urgent need for women’s voices, leadership, and the intersection of AI and Gender Equality. Joining this critical conversation and sharing the significant financial contributions that have been made towards this mission were @LorraineTwohill (Chief Marketing Officer, Google), @karliekloss, founder, Kode with Klossy), and @samanthabarry (Editor-In-Chief, @glamourmag . It was an inspiring gathering of minds, and I was honoured to contribute to the conversation as we sat down for an intimate dinner. These were my top 3 contributions: 1️⃣ It is important to acknowledge the progress that is being made, no matter how little. It encourages optimism and fuels motivation. Doom and gloom perspectives, and pointing fingers does more harm than good (cue climate conversations) 2️⃣ We need more Inclusive policies (equal pay, family-friendly policies) at both private, public,  and Government levels 3️⃣ The intersection of AI and gender equality presents both opportunities and challenges. AI can be a powerful tool for analysing and addressing gender disparities, but it is essential to ensure that AI systems are designed and implemented in ways that do not perpetuate existing biases. Overall, the energy and commitment  at Goals House have reaffirmed my belief in the power of collaboration and innovation in creating a more equitable world. Let's continue to champion gender equality and drive the change we want to see. #sdgs #SDG5 #GenderEquality #Cannes2024 #Google #GoalsHouse #globalgoal

I want to take a moment today to acknowledge and extend a message to every woman out there who is giving her best in whatever role she is fulfilling: If you are a mother trying your best to balance work commitments and spending time with your kids…I see you. I salute you! If you are a young woman trying to carve your place in society and improve yourself despite the setbacks…I see you. I salute you! If you are an established career woman standing at the peak of a mountain you have climbed for years and years, take a moment to appreciate the view from the top …I see you. I salute you! Like candles lighting other candles, one woman’s achievements inspire and reassure others who dream of reaching the peak of the mountain one day. #motherhood #motivation #quote #inspiring #women #empowerment

Cannes you see all the powerful women?! 😆*pun intended* Amongst many exciting engagements at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity last year, I hosted the Goal 5 Gender Equality dinner at Goals House, a collaboration between UN Women and the Unstereotype Alliance, with a joint mission to eradicate harmful stereotypes in all media and advertising content. This year, I am excited to be returning to Cannes with @Season25_ in my full capacity as Digital Creator at @houseofadanna , and to be surrounded by women change-makers leveraging media and advertising to push for progress in their respective organisations. I believe strongly in the power of creative storytelling to shift culture, change stereotypes, and influence positive change in our society. So, I’m looking forward to connecting with individuals, brands, and organisations, telling stories creatively, and pushing for progress on all aspects of women’s health, well-being and empowerment. Send me a DM if you would like to connect at Cannes! Let’s explore how we can work together to amplify our impact. l-r: Danai Gurira (Actress, Playwright and Goodwill Ambassador), Aldijana SISIC - Chief, Multistakeholder Partnerships @unwomen , Lorraine Twohill - Chief Marketing Officer @Google , Kate Garvery - Co-founder Project Everyone, Sabrina Elba - Activist and Goodwill Ambassador @Unitednations #Cannes2024 #Storytelling #Creativity #festival #canneslions

Advocating for women’s health and empowerment is a life-long mission that I am extremely passionate about. An important component of this mission is the #GenderHealthGap. According to a report from the @wef and the @McKinsey & Company Health Institute, women spend 25% more of their lives in debilitating health than men, despite living longer on average. Women are often underdiagnosed and undertreated, leading to higher mortality rates and misdiagnosis compared to men. The gender health gap affects everyone, not just women. Addressing this issue can benefit the global economy by at least $1 trillion annually by 2040. To close this gap: - Women need to be diagnosed more effectively and promptly. - Women need to be heard when they report the unbearable pain caused by endometriosis or any other conditions. - More research funding should be directed to women's health problems. Women's pains should not be brushed off as imaginary. No, it is not part of being a woman. A recent study published in The Lancet, in collaboration with the @gatesfoundation underscores the health disparities between men and women. It states that women are more likely to suffer from chronic pain and mental health disorders than men. This underlines that now more than ever, there is a necessity for gender-specific and age-specific health policies and research. Investing in women's health can improve quality of life and create a healthier, more equitable world for all. #WomensHealth #HealthEquity #MedicalResearch #HealthcareInnovation #GenderBias #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #HealthPolicy

Great news coming in from the USA! A new drug has been introduced in the US market that is being labelled as a “game changer” in women’s mental health. Postpartum depression affects up to 1 in 5 women, yet until now, treatment options had been limited. The drug is zuranolone— and it is the first-ever pill designed specifically to treat postpartum depression. It is a ray of hope and relief to mothers struggling with the challenges of postpartum! Unlike the previous treatments, zuranolone boasts rapid efficacy and minimal side-effects. This drug doesn’t just have the power to alleviate symptoms but also empowers women to prioritise their mental well-being and embrace motherhood with confidence. As a mother, I stand with every mother struggling through postpartum, and I celebrate any woman who has experienced postpartum and fought through it. You are not alone. What wonderful news to welcome the weekend with, isn’t it? #PostpartumDepression #Zuranolone #MentalHealth #WomenEmpowerment #Breaking #HealthcareInnovation #news #update #womenshealth #women #weekend

Recently, I stumbled upon a concerning conversation... The topic of discussion was the advertising restrictions surrounding women’s health information on various social media platforms and TV networks. As someone deeply passionate about closing the #GenderHealth gap, I feel compelled to shed light on the stark differences in how women’s health information is treated in the public sphere. While ads featuring sexualised imagery of women often receive a green light, those addressing genuine aspects of women’s experiences—such as postpartum recovery or menstrual health—are frequently sidelined or, worse, completely overlooked. Flip through TV channels or scroll through your social media feeds, and you’ll come across advertisements where women’s bodies are sexualised to sell products like underwear, cars, or clothing. A semi-naked woman on an advertisement is deemed okay if it's to sell something, but not if it is to talk about her health issues and spread awareness. When it comes to empowering women with agency over their bodies, there is pin-drop silence. The finger points in multiple directions, with “content guidelines” and “the algorithm” being the usual scapegoats of big conglomerates. Women’s health issues seem to be treated as innuendos, whispered secrets, or hidden #keywords. And if you’re in the business of marketing women’s health products or raising awareness, navigating these platforms can feel like an uphill battle. Content related to women’s health is policed with terms like “tasteful” and “sensitive”. Whether it's on #Meta, #Instagram, or #Amazon, the line is drawn clearly—no depiction of genitals, breasts, or buttocks, even in educational contexts. Everything is deemed “sexual” content, regardless of intent. It is an R-rated post. It must be flagged as inappropriate. It must be censored and then...removed. Censoring these vital #conversations about women’s health endangers lives by perpetuating taboos and leaving millions of women vulnerable to preventable health conditions. It’s essential that we #advocate for more inclusive and transparent policies that are aimed at raising hashtag#awareness amongst women to take control of their health. Let’s continue to push for progress and ensure every woman has access to the health information she deserves. #WomensHealth #Censorship #HealthInformation #Advocacy #Progress #GenderHealthGap

If someone were to ask me today how I was feeling about where I am in life, I would say this: I am happy. I am joyful. I am strong. I am secure. I am confident. I am courageous. I am fulfilled. I am accomplished. My mission to empower women globally to achieve their highest potential remains as my core motivating factor. It is the force that drives me to pick up where I left off the day before with a cheerful heart. When I ‘retired’ from clinical medicine, it was tricky to communicate what I intended to do for the rest of my work life. I struggled to understand how my vision - a world where #GenderEquality is a living reality for all women - overlapped with my professional experience as a physician. Through advocacy and education, I have embarked on a mission to close the gender health gap. I hope to inspire and contribute to policy changes that advance all aspects of women’s health while educating and motivating women to take control of their health and well-being. Like Michelle Obama says, “Communities and countries and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women.” You don’t need to be powerful to make a difference, but making a difference will always make you feel powerful. Join me on my mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women. Together, we can make that difference! #women #healthiswealth #womenempowerment #mission #genderequality #goals #lifeseries #WomensRightsAreHumanRights
