Not true at all.
Don’t even remember making this joke.
Must have been back in March when the idea of a sequel was especially comically far fetched to us.
Jobu was a different character before Hsu's audition.
We ran the scene a few times and every time something new and magical and unexpected came out so we eagerly raced home and edited together our favorite bits and added music.
Back in 800 U.S. theaters next weekend!
It’s pretty fun in a theater.
Just be clear: it’s the same movie. Same edit.
But if you stay through the credits y’all get some good old fashioned bloopers and outtakes like a classic Hong Kong flick.
‘EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE’ is returning to theaters on July 29 with a new introduction from The Daniels and 8 minutes of outtakes.
Read our review:
Laughed so much at this weird ass movie. Then with the added context of WB shelving the film, I found myself crying by the emotional end.
Zaslav, just sell it / release it and pretend this was all brilliant viral marketing.
‘COYOTE VS ACME’ is now expected to be shelved and deleted forever.
Warner Bros wanted $75M - $80M for the film and rejected offers from Netflix, Amazon & Paramount, refusing to let them counter-offer.

Rotten Tomatoes is a flawed metric by which we judge and critique films, it contributes to a film culture that prioritizes pleasing everyone over creating singular and... wait, what...

Abortion has been around for millennia and will be around for millennia.
The anti-choice movement (a minority) has simply been making it less safe and more illegal for years.

Wishing safety and peace to anyone out there who needs one.
Happy release day for our baby EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. This film was genetically engineered for the theater experience so I hope you go.
Just wanted to put out some housekeeping tips and tricks for those of you venturing out to theaters this weekend:
If you loved the gentle parts of EEAAO. The kindness. The Jenny Slate. The rocks…
Go check out Marcel the Shell in theaters this weekend made by a bunch of our dear friends! It’s a healing movie.
THANKS FANS!
(It is so weird to get data on every theater that is showing our movie in North America. Shout out to the one person who bought a ticket to our movie in Hale County, Texas yesterday. Hope you enjoyed it! We don’t take that $9 for granted. 🐮)
Premiering a new short film tonight that we manically shot in one day and cast ourselves in just like the old days... except this one premieres on CBS in a few hours 😬

All at Once last week. if ever there were a time for a kung fu action film that ruminates on combating nihilism and hopelessness it is now. super nourishing! ❤️👊
ugh I need to vent a little. I just got an unsolicited phone call about a local Los Angeles election. And the person on the phone was the actual candidate Eunisses Hernandez. 😬
Are people still on twitter? What is X? If you're still out there, we're really proud of this book that's coming out and so grateful to the folks that contributed and put it together.

Echo Quan (On Set Translator) was the secret soul to our film set. So many people have told us how much it meant to them to hear the family speaking in multiple languages (Cantonese, Mandarin, Chinglish, and English) and we couldn't have pulled it off without her.
We are so excited every time someone shares a story of their experience watching our film with their families. Especially when the film leads to healing conversations.

to help craft a simple message to help prepare your parents for the wild ride that is our film and place it in a context that might make more sense to them.
Lol. Fake news. Fun headline. Kinda wish this was true. Scheinert just WANTED it to look like taxidermy. 😂

Are you “pro-life?” Cool. Saving lives is an awesome goal.
Some suggestions: End the death penalty. Protect the environment. Fight for universal healthcare. Fight childhood poverty + food scarcity.
Thanks London.

...and she's so sweet on the phone and seems so touched when I tell her how big of a fan I am and now i guess i'm gonna donate some more because I want to see my community thrive and see my vulnerable neighbors protected.
And she's a badass who's been involved in local activism for years who is campaigning to unseat a city councilman who has shamelessly accepted ungodly amounts of special interest money from out of town developers and chevron and trumpers over the last 9 years.
Gotta shout out Kelsi Ephraim (and her set dec team) for set dressing some of the most complicated cluttered sets we’ve ever done at a scale we've never done. The Wang apartment is one of our favorite sets we've ever worked on because of how nostalgic and perfect it ended up.

Echo used to work for Wong Kar Wai when she was in Hong Kong. But when she moved to LA she didn't find any work in our industry (for several years!) This is her first job in the industry since she has moved here. She teared up when we hired her. But we’re the lucky ones!

the daniels gave me mozzarella sticks on the picket line and i dropped the marinara and the white one picked it up for me and i was like “aw what a nice white man” and my friends were like “uhm do you know who that was”
Speaking of edits, this film was a technical nightmare. There were complicated subtitles in three different languages, a blurry line between VFX and editing, all of the aspect ratios... but our two amazing Assistant Editors Zekun “Zoe" Mao and Aashish D'Mello never batted an eye.
5) Finally, enjoy the ride.
Every frame of this film was made with love from our cast and crew. Hope it feels like a warm group hug from us all. Thank you so much to everyone who has already reached out with the kindest of words. We are all very much overwhelmed. 🙏🏻
Happy Xmas! For
@Variety
, I wrote about Everything Everywhere All At Once—what the film & screenplay mean to my heart.
This is part of Variety's annual Writers on Writers, where writers of all different genres reflect on their favorite films of the year.
3) COVID numbers are down, but out of respect for the immunocompromised, try to wear your mask to the best of your abilities. (Also if you are the child of immigrants, have mommy issues, or are prone to crying in movies, bring an extra mask, in case things get… soggy.)
Here’s the thing, we’ve been showing our very aggressively weird work to our parents for almost a decade, and it’s always a gamble. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they totally don’t.
4) The release is limited this weekend but we go Everywhere All At Once on April 8th. Territories that have not been announced yet are in the works. Thank you for being patient.
The mind boggling list of artistic heroes that we’ve gotten to work with because of this movie grows:
James Jean y’all!!!
(It looks dope upside down too)
Colorist Alex Bickel recreated so many film stocks and color treatments to help you subconsciously know which universe you were in (technicolor hot dog musical might be our favorite).
He also gave us shit for having more edits than any previous project of his by a HUGE margin.
On the other hand, we’ve heard from many people, especially children of immigrants, who wish they could share the film with their parents, but aren’t sure how to start the conversation
(we get it, our film can be fucking weird).

1) Maybe pee right before. It is a dense movie and there are no good pee breaks. (But it’s the same length as a marvel movie) Once the credits roll the bathroom line has been hilariously long (but maybe that’s fun because you can talk to strangers in line about the movie yay)
In the middle of a numbingly overwhelming year, the headlines in the small town paper in Guntersville Alabama and the accolades from Alabama dot com sneak past my defenses and make me emotional. 🥲
Did you know half of the duo behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is from Alabama? Daniel Scheinert made our list of 2022 Alabama entertainers of the year. See the full list:
Oscar nominee Jonathan Wang explains how he became the "third leg" of the Daniels and why the success of "Everything Everywhere" should be seen as a counterpoint to "Top Gun: Maverick":
The incredible D Y Sao doubled for Ke Huy Quan in many scenes.
First time they met D.Y. got emotional because when he immigrated to America he watched Short Round over and over again to learn English.
Scheinert's always been a thrift store boy!
Since we're talking clothes, a big shout out to:
Been wearing one of a kind boots utilizing reclaimed car tire soles & repurposed textiles, made by Valentino's native run non-profit all year.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” co-director Daniel Scheinert got his black Oscars tuxedo from an Alabama thrift store that buys lost luggage and sells the spoils, turning up everything from diamond earrings to mounted deer skulls.
2) this is an intense movie by design! Lots of flashing lights and bright, loud sequences. If you are prone to seizures or sensitive to this kind of thing be prepared! (No shame! Kwan’s brother came with sunglasses and earplugs)
@bingliu89
once told us that these kinds of conversations are a 4 dimensional process, so don’t be disappointed if they don’t immediately respond the way you want them too. They might not ever get it, but that’s okay.
So fun selling tickets to our favorite films we didn't make. Thanks everyone who watched The Grandmaster with us in a packed house last night.
ALSO: apparently nobody is buying tickets to Bad Grandpa!? Am I crazy for calling it a masterpiece and crying every time I watch it?
