My apologies for avoiding your celebrations, frustrations etc in here over the past year, but I realised Twitter brings me the opposite of joy - recent occasional forays back in confirm such. I remain nearby but prefer to communicate via photos here, or other platforms.❤️
Here’s me in the late 90s proudly wearing my
@3RRRFM
t-shirt at a Linux installfest (where I somehow managed to squeeze Debian onto someone’s 100MB hard disk - no, that’s not a typo - one hundred megabytes). A few years later I actually won a computer in a RRR radiothon!
so what I’m really happy about is that I didn’t just do a talk at our internal conference, but I did a talk with one of our up & coming star grads, Will. An excellent experience, you should try it!

Very much in awe of my

teammates pulling off a smooth first-ever fully-remote

over the past few days. A lot of behind-the-scenes twiddling, but it turned out all right on the night.

PSA for people coming to Haskell from other programming languages:
You don't need to criticize your previous choice of language to prove your Haskell bona fides. I assure you that you will not impress anybody by doing so. Just build something in Haskell in service to others
I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t survive in a feline-free household. Name TBC but I’m thinking “Norman” after Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub (following a theme...)

Have you subscribed to
@3RRRFM
yet? Not only are you keeping an excellent thread of local Melbourne radio alive, but their stickers make your laptop 25% _better_. My musical brain expanded so much thanks to RRR over the years.
Quick shoutouts to two people who really influenced the way I tackle things:
@TWindscheffel
for teaching me that people come first. You stretch, you challenge, but you never break people.
And
@Cos
for teaching me that every problem is important, but some more than others.
3 weeks of leave starts now! At least for an evening I can pretend that the worries of the world can’t touch me, especially after such an intense few months. Even if I can’t go out, I can revel in music old and new,…
Happy 30th birthday,

! I turned up to a (video) meeting of the user group
@linuxusersvic
that I helped some friends start about 28 years ago, and still going strong - much respect to the people who put in the hard work over so many years to keep it alive.
Hugely proud to see my team member 冯炜 (Feng Wei) sharing some of the problems we've seen with teams' CI/CD pipelines during our journey to bring consistency to REA Group's software delivery platform, along with ways to make them better.

Unexpected bonus of going to the office today - idly looking out the window during an afternoon meeting and seeing
@ImaginateWayne
sail down the street on his skateboard.
Thanks, nxdnz - it’s a struggle to find something (super)profound to say about the impact you’ve had upon us at work over the past 7.5 years, even a few days after you finished up.

This remains my favourite shot,…
I’ve made good use of my week off by walking 100km since Monday morning. It’s not quite _cardio_ but it’s something to be happy about nonetheless.

I said to my colleagues after this happened “well, it’s a good chance to reacquaint ourselves with ” - distributed teams aren’t the same thing as fully-remote teams, as we discovered very quickly with our teams in Xi’an who now had to WFH.
I don't. Know how. To explain. To engineers. That you can't just BUILD things. YOU. HAVE. TO. TELL. PEOPLE. ABOUT. THEM. TOO.
MULTIPLE TIMES. IN CONTEXTS THAT THEY PARTICIPATE IN AND USING LANGUAGE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND.
