According to the biologists
@savethemanatee
this is an auntie manatee babysitting at least one of these cute lil babytees she has with her (as triplet manatees have never been recorded). This is first trio of calves we’ve observed on Cam!

What do parrotfish dream of? Like clockwork this male yellowtail settles down at sunset and tonight he appears to be having quite a conversation with himself while changing his colors 🦜🐠 😴😝

Coral City is under threat of development! This is not a drill! Let’s protect the home of Oval, Ramón, and all their friends! Please see the next tweet for link to submit a comment to the Army Corps

This is a Ramón appreciation post! Ramón is a male yellowtail parrotfish that’s been through a lot this year. He likes to sleep next to the CCC, but back in early June a sharksucker remora attached itself to him and it nearly drove him crazy. For weeks he could not sleep well...
CCC double feature: a young black grouper puts on its camouflage mottling and sets up to hunt while a schoolmaster snapper stalks nearby… but even hunters can be hunted in Coral City; here the lemon shark is given respect as the top fish predator ‘round here

Horseshoe crabs are basically living fossils, having walked the shallow seas of Earth for the past 450 million years nearly unchanged in appearance. And today we saw our first blue-blooded buddy make its appearance on the CCC

We were greeted with a parade of rainbow parrotfish this morning on the CCC’s 3 year anniversary streaming on

. Since then, the CCC has been streamed for more than 1.5 million HOURS across 3 million views. Thank you all for tuning and following along

For the past two weeks we’ve been observing ‘Mercy’, a rainbow parrotfish, going about life normally despite a gruesome injury (that appears to be healing). These parrotfish sure are resilient and inspiring animals! Keep on swimming Mercy!! 🙏🌈🙏

A tiny yellow jack swims safely in front of Lisa’s snout on one of her many passes by the Cam today as shark season shows no sign of slowing down. Don’t forget to tune in to the livestream during the daylight hours!

Look into the eye of the manatee and realize it’s been living in water temps around 90F for more than a month straight. The corals are not okay. The seagrass is not okay. This could be the coolest summer of the future. This is a climate emergency🔥〰️🐮〰️🔥

Parrotfish are some of the best known sleepers on the reef, and that restful state is accompanied by dramatic color changes that help them blend into the rockwork. Here is a male redtail taking a quick nap at sunset, getting comfy, changing sleeping positions
#coralcitycamera
We’ve noticed parrotfish love to eat floating mangrove propagules (pods). While removing a snail that had jammed up the wiper, a mangrove propagule with a broken bottom end floated by, so we put it into the sand and a redtail parrotfish immediately came to feast

This manatee calf has already learned a tough lesson about life in boat traffic. Thankfully it was only grazed. Remember we share our coastal waters w these gentle giants so observe wake zones and make way for manatees
