New: Source says the legislature is expected vote on a bill as soon as tonight that would commit $1B in state funding for the MTA.
Legislature and gov are working towards a deal.
Money would come from general fund/bonded out - still unclear.
Terrible idea. I’ll be voting NO.
Congestion Pricing will not only fund necessary
@MTA
capital projects but also make NYC streets safer, air cleaner, and make our city more livable.

The legislature gave the MTA board a mandate to raise $1 billion annually via a Congestion Pricing plan. They have created that plan the Governor can’t undue it with a video.
On June 30th the cameras need to be turned on!
91% of open container tickets have been given to Black/Hispanic NYers. Open container laws are racist & antiquated. That is why we should pass my bill to abolish them. Abolition will have the added benefit of discouraging NYers from congregating indoors.

Rallying with my colleagues in government, transit and environmental advocates to save Congestion Pricing.
No Congestion Pricing roll back.
No new PMT on NYC workers.
The
@MTA
board has a fiduciary responsibility to the MTA not to political calculations.
The board should vote down any pause to Congestion Pricing and implement the program as is. I'll be making that clear in my testimony at tomorrow’s board meeting.
Shouldn't have to be said but Congestion Pricing is good policy and good politics for Democrats.

How would you like NY to pay for all the services that NJ commuters/tourists use? If not CP - how about a commuter tax?
Congestion pricing is also about making our city cleaner and more livable. If your constituents don’t want to pay they should take NJ transits.
I was in Teaneck to highlight new efforts to stop the
@MTA
's $23/day Christmas-Crushing Congestion Tax, and the disastrous effects it will have on North Jersey families visiting Manhattan for the holidays and commuting to work.
After serious deliberation I believe it is time for
@NYGovCuomo
to resign. The serious and credible sexual harassment claims and the deliberate misstating of Covid-19 nursing home deaths makes it untenable for the Govenor to continue his work. See my statement below.
Happy to announce that I will be enjoying my summer and not running in NY10. Good luck to all the contenders.
After a week of a lot of phone calls I'm excited to get back to doing important work in Albany for my constituents.

The only way to keep MTA infrastructure in good repair, increase accessibility, and expand the system is to have dedicated revenue like Congestion Pricing. There is no way to fund the MTA’s capital needs without CP.
Time to get Congestion Pricing done with no exemptions. The only way to reduce congestion, pollution and make our streets safer is for everyone to pay every time they enter the congestion zone.

I was unaware when I spoke to Zach Williams that there were 83 members on the record ready to vote yes for BPRA. We should immediately move the bill to the floor and pass this important piece of climate legislation. It’s darkest before the dawn. We have a lot of time to do this.
NEW: The Build Public Renewables Act is not passing this year, according to sponsor Assembly Robert Carroll
He previously told me a Senate amendment made in final days of session complicated efforts to get bill over legislative finish line in his own chamber.
Wow.
@JumaaneWilliams
is 100% right and
@GovKathyHochul
is completely wrong. Car traffic in NYC is exceeding pre pandemic levels while subway ridership is at best 60% or pre pandemic levels. We need congestion pricing now.
All three candidates on congestion pricing:
@Tom_Suozzi
- delay it for a year
@GovKathyHochul
- now is not the time to do it. Will get it done eventually
@JumaaneWilliams
- do congestion pricing now
New York could cut all mass transit fares by half for the next 6 months for $1 billion. We spent half that much on a gas tax holiday that didn’t create any relief. Let’s incentivize mass transit not cars!
Zeldin proved in this debate that he’s the anti-climate, anti-choice and pro-gun candidate. No way to make NY stronger.
@KathyHochul
is the clear choice. From fighting for the environmental bond act to the equal right amendment she’s proven she’s the leader NY needs.

For three years I’ve worked on BPRA. It’s the most consequential piece of climate legislation in the nation.

To the man sunbathing outside my office. We have a backyard and AC! So next time pop into my office and I promise we will assist you in all ways possible to both beat the heat and work on your tan.
Raising fares won’t save the MTA. Dedicated funding streams & good service are the answer. Last year NY spent 600M to eliminate the gas tax. That same money could have reduced mass transit fares throughout the NY by half for 6 months. Those are the policy solutions we need.
For those of us who live in NYC - Congestion Pricing will make our streets safer, our air cleaner and when we need to use a car our roads less congested.
You can afford to pay the toll the twice a year you come see a Broadway show. Better yet, take the train.
Congestion pricing has been tried in other cities abroad & it's been a failure. It's a bad idea that will create new economic pain for hard working NYers. Life in NY is difficult enough for many as is. I totally oppose this congestion pricing push. We must kill this Hochul Hike!
Do you represent NY? The MTA is the circulatory system that makes NY run. It costs money to do that. CP has brought revenue and created more livable cities everywhere it’s been implemented. Use your brain and have some civic pride - otherwise go represent somewhere else.
Proud to introduce legislation today with NJ
@RepJoshG
to give New York and
@GovKathyHochul
an ultimatum: end congestion pricing or lose over $2 Billion in federal dollars for
@MTA
. This plan is nothing more than a tax on suburban and outer borough commuters. It needs to be DOA.
NYS Dem Party Chair Jay Jacobs has to go. He divides our party & spends more time helping cynical primary challenges of progressive members of the State legislature than fighting Republicans.
Last weeks results in NY were terrible.
New blood is needed.
Yes. New Yorkers mind. Zeldin is the anti-choice, anti-democracy, anti-environment and pro-gun candidate. If you care about the health and safety of our great state the choice is clear: Vote for
@KathyHochul
.
As the sponsor of the same day voter registration amendment that failed due to the Conservative Party’s cynical and anti-democratic campaign, I am undeterred and will reintroduce the amendment in January and start the ratification process over again.
Bullsh*t. Congestion and its effects (pollution [air & noise], lower quality of life, and negative economic impacts) is an existential problem for NYC and the region. Not solving - it so someone from NJ can keep freely destroying our city is antithetical to solving problems.
The $23/day Congestion Tax will drain our families’ pocketbooks and hurt small businesses, and it does nothing to actually help the environment or ease congestion. This is nothing more than a cash grab to fund the terribly mismanaged MTA that is riddled with fraud and corruption.
The legislature has a job to do & part of that job is oversight. We should have never granted
@NYGovCuomo
broad executive powers. That’s why I voted against granting those powers last March.
Proud to stand w/my colleagues to defend
@rontkim
& restore the balance of power.
All these lawsuits do is hurt NY.
The “leaders” bringing them couldn’t care less about cleaner air, safer streets or a well funded mass transit system. They are not advocating for everyday NYers but a minority of selfish drivers.
New York’s MTA is suspending new construction contracts as lawsuits against a congestion pricing plan threaten the agency’s ability to pay for needed infrastructure upgrades
.
@SalazarSenate
& I sponsor a bill to abolish most of NY’s open container laws but at a minimum the leg shld permit the sale of to-go alcohol.
I hope whoever our next mayor is will join in this fight to end these antiquated & discriminatory laws.
Outdoor dining should be permanent and year round. Regulations should be around making sure structures are well maintained, safe, accessible and aesthetically pleasing.
Not only should outdoor dining be permanent - we should let bars and restaurants offer outdoor dining year round.
If restaurants and their patrons can make outdoor dining work in the winter the city shouldn’t stop them!
"I think we should make this a permanent feature in NYC,"
@BilldeBlasio
says of outdoor dining program. He has promised to bring it back next year (after that he will be out of office)
.
@NYGovCuomo
says if Congress does not provide funding for the States there will be an “economic recession.” Cuomo says New York needs $30 Billion over two years. If not, “we are going to have to take very dramatic action,” says Cuomo
If the necessary upgrades were made (straightening and route wide electrification) NYC to Montreal would become extremely popular. Average speed of 90mph would easily make it more desirable than plane or driving. NYC to Albany is already one of Amtrak’s most popular routes.
Today, 48 planes are scheduled to fly between Montreal and New York City. With proper high-speed rail and pre-clearance protocols, this journey could take less than 3 hours by train. Currently, it takes 11 hours by train. We deserve better.
Today, after 4 years, Build Public Renewables becomes law. It will transform NYPA from a moribond agency to the most dynamic builder and owner of public renewables in the nation. It’s the most important Green New Deal legislation to ever pass! TY to all who made this possible.

We challenged. BOE refused to review our spec - claimed it was frivolous.
Traffic in NYC bridges and tunnels has reached 97% of pre-pandemic levels.
Yet, subway ridership is only at *53%* of pre-pandemic levels.
That is simply not sustainable—not for our city's growing traffic problem, nor for our efforts to curb emissions.
We need leadership and courage to fix the literacy crisis. You can’t believe in justice or equity if you don’t believe in doing the hard work to reform our schools.

Open container laws disproportionately impact black/brown men & w/COVID19 making it unsafe to imbibe indoors, I am introducing legislation to repeal open container laws during Covid crisis. If the repeal is positive (which I think it wil be) we should then make it permanent.

This is why discretionary funding should be abolished. It is used to control and thus corrupts the democratic process. There is no way to administer a system like this fairly. The next mayor and speaker must do away with this corrupt system.

are only environmental & transit champions if it doesn’t cost them anything. Only way we get clean air, safe streets and more livable cities is if we agree to shared sacrifice.
New Jersey’s U.S. senators have joined the fight against New York City’s plan to charge drivers on Manhattan’s busiest streets, arguing that the tolls would unfairly burden suburbanites who must travel into the city for work.
If we want to preserve the vibrancy and vitality of NYC Metro Area we need to fund the

Mayor Adams should resign for the good of New York City.
His Police Commissioner, Schools Chancellor, Health Commissoner & Counsel have all resigned in the last 2 weeks. He has now been indicted by Federal prosecutors.
It is impossible for him to effectively manage the city.
I don’t doubt some paperwork wasn’t filed.
But this is form over substance. It’s clear that no donor/candidate was deceived as to which candidates the multi-candidate committee was supporting.

Splendid weather in Austin, Atlanta, and Phoenix? Do you think 110 degrees is splendid weather? Last year it was over 90 for 100 straight days in Austin. Sure they don’t have winter but winter isn’t that bad. Miami has good weather but still way too hot in the summer.
If New Jersey can do it - so can New York. Let’s raise taxes on those who make more than a million dollars a year, so we can pay for essential services.
