Old man speech: Can't believe how many layups I've seen missed this season because players choose pretty finishes over two points. If you can't dunk, use the backboard. It's not figure skating!
Grand Blanc lost an All-American and a 6-9 after school started, leaving GB with just two starters from state championship team; dropped 4 of first 6 games; and is back in the state semifinals.
While Christie and obviously Emoni are sexier names, and perhaps too much is made that he can grind and is tuff and a coach's son, good reminder here just how talented is Pierre Brooks. Will play in Final 4s and the NBA.
If the early signing period passed you by, don't cry just put pics of Greg Elliott, Yante Maten, Austin McCullough, Malik Ellison, Jason Whitens or Eric Williams on the gym wall and max out your senior year.
Two of the best underclassmen point guards in the
s̴t̴a̴t̴e̴ country in the D2 and D1 semifinals, GR Catholic freshman Phat Phat Brooks & Grand Blanc soph RJ Taylor.

When the MHSAA hands state championship trophy to Lumen Christi all-state running back who transferred from Jackson High to replace Lumen Christi's graduated an all-state running back, but Kithier can't play.
Michigan's 2025 point guard class lived up to its strong rep at the D Zone Shootout, with strong performances from Detroit Renaissance's Lance Stone, Adrian's Stevie Elam and East Kentwood's Jah Hatchett; as well as EK's Darryl Thompkins and Troy's Mason Parker.
Thanks to all the players, coaches, and support for today's camp. It was the longest gap between camps in the 16-years history, and a lot of talent out there was making up for lost time.

So, intangible, undefinable things. Unlike, say, real things -- Big Ten championships and Final 4 banners that can be kept up.
Good luck to Braeden Proctor, headed out this weekend for a coaching internship at Sunrise Christian in Wichita, KS. A great help to Bank Hoops the past year-and-a-half, will be missed!
The real MVP today? 6-10 Alma senior Sam Leppien, who left the gym to pick up a fellow camper -- whom he didn't know -- that had car trouble on the way.
Scooby Johnson does lots of "little boring things" that many high school stars don't, like sprinting back to the paint in transition D, staying active guarding the wing to make post entries difficult.
Jaren Jackson will be MSU's No 2 all-time pro. He had 27 and 9 in win at Lakers, bullied LeBron in the post for one bucket, then hit a 3 in his grill to ice it.
U-M, MSU, WMU, CMU, EMU, Toledo, Ohio, Penn State among those watching top 10 overall 2025 prospects Phoenix Glassnor from De La Salle and 6-9 Camden Karel from Byron Center at BCAM Reaching Higher.
St. Mary's soph Kareem Rozier reminds me of Joe Carr. Knows at a young age for each inch you are under 6-feet, you have to be that much nastier, cockier and more ruthless. Love it.
Only two Michigan HS grads were invited to the Portsmouth Invitational, one originally a walk-on, Kenny Goins, one originally a D2 recruit, Zach Hankins.

After Emoni Bates, the most gifted and talented player in the state is Kobe Bufkin. He made some moves his weekend for Family's 16U that are hard to wrap your head around.
Re. GLIAC freshman point guards, Northwood's Ja'kavien Lewis had a line of 20 points on 6-10 fgs, 7 assists, 0 turnovers (!), logged 38 minutes and got the dub vs Michigan Tech.
There's no real basketball media in this state

please bring on some Michigan coaches

to tell the world what the government is doing to basketball players in Michigan.
Saw a lot of "positionless" basketball this week ... maybe point guard needs to be a position again. Waste transition opportunities when just anyone advances the ball.
East Lansing held both defending state champs Warren Lincoln and Orchard Lake St. Mary's under 40 points in wins at GVSU. Trojans guard Kelvin Torbert is a top 10 2026 prospect.
If you're going to spot a 10-0 start, it doesn't hurt to have a guard like Sonny Wilson. The Family 16U ended up beating Illinois Wolves 60-36 at Run-n-Slam.

National level game tonight between No. 1 Orchard Lake St. Mary's and No. 2 Grand Blanc, with upperclass All-American level prospects like St. Mary's Julian Roper and GB's Ty Rodgers.
Probably the most skilled incoming 8th-grader at the Bank Hoops Camp, Rockford point guard Eli Wolfe has a nasty crossover and was his team's leading scorer. Hooping bloodlines, his dad was All-GLIAC guard and sister is rising soph with D1 offers off of Rockford's state
Two criteria, but non-negotiable, have to be a grinder, and know and love the game, to write for Bank Hoops, and this guy meets both, Jeff McKinney will be providing some content for the site, joining Braeden Proctor in the youth brigade.
Bank Hoops 2021 Workout All-Camp team (from left) MVP Jalen Broyles Ypsi Lincoln, Drew Hess Oscoda, Jayland Randall Chandler Park, Kendall Smith Reeths-Puffer, Malcolm King Southfield Christian, Derrick Campbell Saginaw, Carmelo Franklin Arthur Hill.
Five 3s, a dunk, a nasty step-back jumper and an ironic "overrated" chant from the Grand Blanc student section for the state's top prospect, Orchard Lake St. Mary's freshman Trey McKenney at the Gotta Get It Classic.
