Baile Funk is not EDM. Merengue is not EDM. And JERSEY CLUB IS NOT EDM. nor is any Club or Cultural Genre. Just cause you add a buildup & “big drop” & has that recognizable “EDM” style, it does not speak for the genre & categorizes it as that. Sincerely, People of Culture.

There should definitely be a documentary on the “ENT era” of Teens partying in NYC. They were really letting Teens coordinate full blown events at nightclubs on weekends from 9-1am. They made hella bank off tickets, water and soda. Myspace/Aim promotion was top tier. LEGENDARY!

reggaeton and reggaeton parties were fun when ppl actually danced and danced well now it's just a sing-a-long full of ppl w 2 left feet "dancing" to a guy whose voice sounds like he accidentally ate a kazoo after drinking a lot of cheap tequila

I still find it so amazing how strong Hip-Hop was even in its infancy in 1980, that its influence reached DR on a Merengue track out of all things. Wilfrido Vargas no doubt took Merengue to the next level, but this takes the cake. Big up Eddie Herrera, DR’s first rapper lol 🥁🇩🇴

You know what's been burning at us since we all returned to partying after COVID. The fact that every event in NY is a one-genre party or a versus party. The charm of NY was that people from different cultures could come together and dance to each other's music. Did NY lose that?

The stuff ppl think is Latin House is not Latin House at all. Latin House is a genre that originated in the late 80s/early 90s in NY within the Puerto Rican, Dominican, and African American community. Tech House w Spanish or Portuguese vocals on top is not it....

There's really no pressure that comes with playing uptown lounges. Rather, it just feels like a waste of time cus you're playing to 150 cornballs puffing on hookah who don't react to anything, so it's just an unenjoyable experience. Wouldn't call that pressure tho, just boring af

She sampled clarity… Also Rappers that have been on Ultra… Waka Flocka Flame 50 Cent Riff Raff Diddy Lil Jon (Technically not a rapper but still..) & so many more I can’t think off the top. This is nothing new or shocking.

This is why authenticity and staying true to yourself and your culture is important. Only a Mexican could blow up corridos in the mainstream urbano scene the way Peso Pluma & Natanael Cano have. Very happy to see artists stay true to their culture when making music.

A lot of ya got angry when she mentioned that most ppl in brazil do not listen to Bad Bunny but she's absolutely right Brazil has a huge market for its own music, MAD GENRES. PLUS, they're always moving a million miles a second. They create new niches and genres every day 🇧🇷♥️
