#OtD 26 Dec 1943, communist partisan, Mario Fiorentini, cycled to the Regina Coeli prison in Rome and threw two kilos of TNT at the SS officers guarding the gates. Eight were killed, five instantly. Guards opened fire, but were unable to hit him as he pedalled away to safety

#OtD 2 Jan 2020 El Vaquita, a street dog who'd joined protestors in confrontations with the police, wouldn't allow himself to be adopted, even though he'd been shot. So, the people of Antofagasta, Chile, staged a fake protest to lead the dog to the vet.

#OtD 30 Apr 1923 radical Jewish actor Al Lewis was born in NYC. Best known for the role of grandpa Munster in the Munsters, his mother took him to May Day protests and he became a socialist. He later helped rehouse evicted people during the depression.

#OtD 4 Jul 1913 Black Spanish civil war fighter, Holocaust survivor and electrician Carlos Greykey in Equatorial Guinea. He moved to Barcelona, fought against the fascists, then fought the Nazis in France, then survived the Mauthausen concentration camp.

While living in South Africa Gandhi wrote that white people there should be "the predominating race" & described Black Africans as "troublesome, very dirty and live like animals". He also supported segregation of Indians and Africans, whom he referred to derogatorily as "Kaffirs"

#OtD 31 May 1927 Donald Trump's father Fred Trump was arrested at a Ku Klux Klan rally in Queens, NY. Despite Donald Trump denying it happened, multiple newspapers reported it, giving Fred Trump's address and reporting that all of those arrested were wearing KKK robes.
