If you think the
@hornets
putting "CLT" on their new City jerseys is a little out there, that's nothing compared to the old Christian Universal Ministry hoops team. (h/t

POSSIBLE RETAIL LEAK:
@ChicagoBears
jersey spotted by
@Strum0085
at a Dick's in Algonquin, IL, appears to be a throwback based on the 1936 uni. Team is set to unveil a new throwback on Friday, so we'll find out soon enough if this is legit.
Shame on
@StLouisBlues
and
@enterprise
for putting an advertising flag as part of the color guard accompanying the national anthem prior to last night's Stanley Cup game. A nauseating spectacle. We need to push back against this type of ad encroachment. (h/t

MLB's new Independence Day caps have "We the People" underbrim. Nice idea, but Independence Day celebrates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence, while "We the People" is from the preamble to the Constitution (ratified 12 yrs after Declaration). Bad civics.
Mariners planning to wear 1946 Seattle Steelheads throwbacks for "Salute to the Negro Leagues" on June 20 vs. Royals, who will wear KC Monarchs throwbacks.
Braves say "businesses, employees & fans in Georgia are the victims of this decision."
Yes, exactly — and biz/fans in some other city will benefit. That’s how economic boycotts work. Now maybe the ATL biz/fans will mobilize against the Georgia voting law. That's the whole point.
Someone snuck an "Impeach Trump" sign into tonight's World Series game. Was displayed for a few pitches during the top of the 7th. Security quickly removed it.
10 of this year's MLB Independence Day caps have leaked.
I look forward to five Rays players (or maybe just anyone with a working brain) announcing that they will decline to wear them.
Excited to announce that founder Chris Creamer (

ICYMI: My latest ESPN piece is about a confidential NFL memo from 1966 with the subject line "Some Observations on the NFL and Negro Players." Major historical find, and highly prophetic. Powerful stuff.
- MLB logo is too high.
- NOB lettering is too big.
- Numerals aren't perforated.
- Jersey and pants appear to match.
I'm all for artistic license, but come on.
Uni note on JJ Watt signing w/ Cardinals: If Larry Fitzgerald comes back for another season, Cardinals would have two players wearing the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award jersey patch. No team has ever had two Payton patchers on the roster simultaneously. (h/t Alfonso Ferrari)
First 9000 fans attending next Tues night's
#njdevils
game will get limited-edition “David Puddy” bobblehead. Seinfeld actor Patrick Warburton will be attending the game.
Today is my last day at ESPN, and my final piece for them is a greatest-hits column of my favorite things I've written for them over the past 15 years. Enjoy.
Reds OF Nick Senzel, who was called up from the minors late last week, has worn four different uniforms in his first four MLB games. He'll wear yet another combo tonight, as the Reds will be on the road. (h/t

Angels kicking of "Throwback Weekend" by wearing 1970s throwbacks tonight. Equipment staff went the extra mile by putting old-school Dymo labels on the helmet brims. (h/t

Ah, jeez.
Just shut it down already. We're clearly not equipped for having sports this summer or fall. Accept that reality and try to regroup for 2021.
Fun Fact: When Jerry West represented the NBA's Western Conference in the All-Star Game, he became one of the handful of athletes who've worn their surname on the front and back of the jersey simultaneously.
D-backs' new uniforms get rid of the two most problematic elements of their uni set — the annoying snakeskin and the even more annoying charcoal grey road color. Textbook case of addition by subtraction.
ICYMI: Cards have added Keith Hernandez to their team hall of fame, but you could be forgiven for thinking they actually inducted someone named Ed Jones.
Even by the usual standards of sports-advertising grossness, this is a disgrace. Cards usually Get It™, but not this time.
Super Bowl Fun Fact: Everyone's been complaining that the Rams' throwback helmet and jersey don't match (left), but they didn't match back in the day either (right), so that aspect of the throwback is actually accurate!
Grizzlies' new alternate uniform design references 1968 Memphis sanitation workers' strike and upcoming 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. More info:
The Braves won every World Series game in which they wore a uniform for the first time, and lost every game in which they wore a uniform for the second time.
Here's the sequence, from Game 1 thru Game 6.
24 years ago today — 1/1/99 — I made the 1st New Year's resolution of my life: to create a new sports column about uniforms. I'd been thinking about it for awhile. The resolution was the nudge I needed to make it happen.
By the end of May, I'd done it, and Uni Watch was born.
I take a drug that suppresses my immune system, which makes me eligible for a third Covid vaccine under the recently announced CDC guidelines. Took care of that today.
Supposed to rain all day tomorrow (Hurricane Henri), so it's no biggie if I have to deal with side effects.
