Researchers at Umeå University have investigated a group of substances used to combat weeds and insects suspected of carrying risks to human health and inducing cancer.

What bacteria and fungi do we carry, and are any of them antibiotic-resistant? That’s what two students in the Bachelor’s Programme in Life Science set out to investigate during the Open house at Umeå University – and the results were unexpected.

20 research projects at Umeå University share nearly €5.9 million (around SEK 68 million) in support from various EU research programmes. One of the funded researchers is Nicholas Kamenos, professor at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science.

Alireza Salami, a Wallenberg Fellow at the Department of Medical and Translational Biology, has received an ERC Consolidation Grant. This prestigious funding will support his research on the molecular basis of cognitive decline in aging.
