USA Track & Field is saddened by the loss of Greg Bell, who was the oldest-living U.S. Olympic track and field gold medalist at the time of his death. ❤️ Bell won Olympic gold at the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956 with a then-Olympic record 7.83m long jump. He went on to practice dentistry in Logansport, Indiana until he was 89 years old. He had pastimes in carpentry and the arts, leaving a lasting legacy through each of his accomplishments. USA Track & Field mourns the loss of Fred Newhouse, a stalwart figure in track and field. ♥️ During his athletic career, Newhouse won 1976 Olympic gold in the 4x400 and silver in the 400. Following athletic retirement, he held positions on the USOPC board and as the USATF Treasurer and Head of the AAC, served as the team leader for the Sydney Games in 2000, and most recently spent time as a Master-Level official. Newhouse spent much of his life immersed in track and field and made a marked impact on those around him with every hat he wore. His impact was tremendous, and he will forever be remembered.
