@aboodman Before the Chrome launch, rather than dinners at the office, I remember leisurely walking as a team to Cafe 150 for lunch most days. Sometimes we talked about work stuff, but people also talked about their families and whatever else was going on in their lives. It was good times.

Happy #LovingDay ! I'm thankful for those who have made my happiness possible.
54 years ago, we represented Mildred and Richard Loving in the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia. We won the case and overturned unconstitutional bans against interracial marriage. #LovingDay

@darinwf @vijayshekhar @RickByers @ericschmidt I'm not sure who the person that "invented" Chrome is in Eric's telling of the story. I remember you, Ben and Brian working on the original prototype.

Not as exciting as last year's SF Mayor's race, but here are the results so far of the SF District Attorney race. This is based on preliminary report 8 on this page:. #RankedChoiceVoting

This is amazing. The whole photo set looks so close to the original anime.
See You Space Cowboy. Meet Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) in Cowboy Bebop, premiering November 19, only on Netflix. @bebopnetflix @netflix @netflixgeeked #COWBOYBEBOP

@darinwf @vijayshekhar @RickByers @ericschmidt IIRC, the three of you worked on it only for a few weeks before demoing it to the rest of the Firefox team (probably the ~10 people being referred to).

This week I started working with the state to help with the new unemployment insurance programs.
Governor @GavinNewsom announced new initiatives to support the millions of California workers who have lost jobs or wages as a result of the #COVID19 pandemic.#CaliforniaForAll #StayHomeSaveLives

Yay! @katherine and I got married at SF City Hall. It's a beautiful building and it makes me happy to see others get married there as well.

📣Wanted to shout out the joe text editor and ion window manager! I used joe up until I switched to VSCode. In the early days of Chrome on Linux, I made sure that dragging out a tab worked with ion. Both are mentioned by @apenwarr on the @tailscale blog.

Both teams were working on browsers, but in different decades. Chrome benefitted from employees wanting work/life balance, a company that had many moon shot projects, and former webdevs who made incremental releases of desktop software possible. This removed a lot of pressure.
Chrome was delivered without any sprints at all. The team came in at 9 and left at 5 (figuratively, people actually kept their own ~8h schedules) every workday for a couple years like clockwork. No drama. No broken marriages, no broken families.

Skinning a bell pepper may sound daunting (and cruel), but I had experience doing it before!. Once @fakeneildrumm forced me to roast a bell pepper on a gas stove and remove the skin. I now get to reapply that skill in preparing food for the baby.

It has begun. I won't be able to go for the leaderboard every night, but I still plan on finishing this year's problem set. #AdventOfCode

Next to the @SFPublicLibrary main branch are the Mayor Ed Lee memorial tree, Pioneer Monument and the Asian Art Museum. Across Civic Center Plaza is City Hall. I also swung by Outta Sight Pizza, the best NYC style pizza in San Francisco.

I just completed all 25 days of Advent of Code 2020!. Thanks @ericwastl for another year of fun puzzles! Competition was much more fierce this year, but I'm also getting rusty. Made it in the top 1000 most days & my best day was 157 place. #AdventOfCode.

I'm back to wearing a mask pretty much all the time outside my home, even when running. I like wearing a mask because:. • it provides warmth (it's been windy and cool outside) 🥶.• it reduces the spread of covid 🦠.• it normalizes wearing a mask 😷.
My interpretation: the risk of getting Covid is related to your vax status, whether you're taking steps to lower risk (masking, etc), & whether you’re exposed to the virus. Even in highly vaccinated SF, the odds of being exposed have gone up ~ 20-fold since June 1. (12/20).

Surprisingly @BayAreaClipper understands me pretty well. Yes, I would like a commemorative TransLink themed card sleeve! 💳😍. I waited on hold with customer service for 90min so I could get the card sleeve and transfer my balance.

I filed taxes yesterday. We had an effective federal tax rate of 1.57% and a CA tax rate of 3.04%. That's way too low for an income of about $120k. Long term capital gains tax is a tax break for the rich. #TaxTheRich.

It's been 10 years since @superamit was diagnosed with Leukemia. Thankful that he's still with us today. If you're in the US and haven't registered with @BeTheMatch, now is a good time to sign up and possibly save a life. 💪

A new sliding block puzzle by the author of Jelly no Puzzle!. Remember when @evmar made a web port of the game and we all played it at work?.
Yugo Puzzle is now available. Move jellies left and right and join them with the same color. It looks easy, but it is actually a challenging puzzle game. Enjoy the variety of unique puzzles. Steam:. .

@superamit The problem is that it will disproportionately hurt low income groups more. Students and families without home access to laptops or wifi or childcare will miss out on education and job opportunities.

I was vaccinated at Moscone North and it was a similarly smooth experience. Everyone was social distancing and the space was wide open. The volunteers and staff made me feel safe. They were also very helpful to a visually impaired woman getting vaccinated.
I wrote about my experience today at the Moscone South vaccination site, mostly to reassure anyone (like me) who was wary of going into a big space full of people. It was fine, and quick.

These are some of the lives being saved by wearing a mask and staying at home.
In all the data and health metrics, it's easy to lose sight of the individuals who have been largely isolated in order to prevent an outbreak there. For people like Bernadette Yee and Jasper Harris, this is the beginning of the end of this pandemic after months of sacrifice.

@aboodman I worked for ~7 months fully remote last year. I thought I would hate it, but I came to prefer it. I think if I were a salary employee and given the option to stay remote, I would take it. For me, it's less about pants, and more about having a good WFH setup and team comms.

Wordle is a game of consonants, not vowels. I play a lot of wordle with @katherine and this is my main takeaway. It's better to have guesses with one vowel and 4 consonants because not knowing the consonants is how you lose.

.@katherine and I have been going about once a week (on a weekday) to run and walk. It would be a shame to lose access to this public space.
Thousands of people walk, bike, roll, and play on Great Highway each day and @D4GordonMar is taking that away in a matter of days instead of waiting for the outreach plan to decide the future of this park. #carfreeGH.

@hoverbird One game that my niece (5yrs old) likes to play is having everyone take turns and say something they are going to do, followed by "just kidding" or "not kidding." For example, "I'm going to pour this water on my head! Just kidding!" She forces everyone to play during meals.
