We have concluded our investigation into a report of a suspect package at Gatwick Airport. Officers from the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team made the package safe, and the airport has been handed back to its operator. 1/3

Two people who were detained while enquiries were ongoing have subsequently been allowed to continue their journeys. There will remain an increased police presence in the area to assist with passengers accessing the South Terminal for onward travel. 2/3

A security cordon is in place around the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport following discovery of a suspected prohibited item in luggage. Police were called at 8.20am this morning and, as a precaution, an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team is being deployed. 1/2

A 58-year-old man has been arrested today (Oct 7) on suspicion of racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage following a Jewish memorial being damaged in Hove. Information can be reported to police online or by calling 101 quoting ref 158 of 4/10.

The A27 road closure has now been lifted after an earlier incident in Shoreham. A 28-year-old man was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for HM coroner.

A road closure is currently in place in both directions in the A27 at Shoreham. The closure eastbound is between Lancing Manor roundabout and westbound at Hangleton. The Holmbush roundabout and the Shoreham flyover westbound are also closed. Please avoid the area at this time.

We have now stood down from Queens Road, Brighton, where around 2,000 people who gathered this evening for a peaceful protest, have now dispersed. There were no arrests. We would like to thank the community for their support & engagement to help us keep people safe.
