@GWRHelp thanks - but that's really terrible treatment of the the many passengers stranded. And I'm afraid the staff are a little short on the ground at Newport. There is a duty of care to passengers to make sure that they are informed and aren't left stranded.

@GWRHelp They have just been told at Newport that the line remains blocked and there will be no way through this evening on the train. I hope you can now confirm the rail replacement in place for their onward journey to London? thanks

@GWRHelp They've been travelling for 4 hours already, and have only got 35 miles - a journey that takes 54 mins. They are 124 miles away from their destination - at 2220 is there any chance the GWR will get them there or should they get a taxi which is £250?

@GWRHelp thanks - however compensation isnt really what they are concerned about at this time. They are stranded and have families to be with and care for, and they need to know if they will get back home this evening

@GWRHelp they originally set out from hereford but their train (18:18) was also cancelled - so they just need to know if they will get back to London tonight... thanks for your assistance

@GWRHelp they are on the train stuck at newport - it was due to be into paddington at 22.09....
