I welcome today’s submission of the new U.S. national climate plan and the statements from subnational governments on advancing the U.S. 2035 climate goals. We need to keep up global momentum on efforts to keep temperature rise below 1.5°C.

#GenderDay at #COP29 is a moment to stress: We need gender-responsive approaches to climate action. Study after study shows: inclusive governance leads to better climate outcomes. Gender equality and climate action must rise in tandem to achieve their full transformative force.

With increasingly severe impacts, the climate crisis is already hitting food production and supply chains hard & causing inflation. The most vulnerable populations are affected the most. Another reason why national climate plans must cover all sectors of the economy. #COP29

As I have said in the #COP29 opening: Now is the time to show that global cooperation is rising to the moment. The UN family is here to support. We are working closely with @UNEP and other partners across the UN system to help Parties with their new national climate plans.

.@UNEP's message at #COP29 is clear: climate crunch time is here. If done right, NDCs 3.0 can help create new jobs, resilient growth & clean air. The @UN is here to support countries deliver, and why @UNEP & @UNFCCC recommitted to work with parties to deliver ambitious plans.

In week 2 at #COP29, we can't afford an outbreak of 'you-first-ism'. We will only get this job done if all Parties step forward in parallel - bringing us closer to common ground. So let's cut the theatrics and get down to the real business. 👉

At #COP29, Parties are discussing the future of the gender agenda in the UN Climate Change process. As we approach the end of the first week of #COP29, I want to emphasize the importance of including and promoting a gender perspective in climate action and climate financing.
