President Trump signed an executive order that freezes all aid to South Africa. The order also states ‘the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation.’ The executive order stems from a land expropriation law that was passed this January in South Africa that aims to address the country’s history of apartheid and colonialism. The law does not allow land to be expropriated without an agreement with the owner, as Trump and Musk have falsely claimed. The “law says that there needs to be an agreement between the landowner and the person who is giving up their land. This isn't just like arbitrarily seizing land,” TK Pooe, a Public Policy specialist at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, tells me. Pooe added that Trump “doesn't seem to understand the real history of South Africa. So it's just a historical inaccuracy.” “Europeans who came to African lands took it very violently… Africans were taken off their ancestral land…and the white minority got the best of South Africa's land. That's the historical acknowledged truth that history books and the United Nations and other world leading universities acknowledge.”

Trump now saying the US would view Gaza as a "real estate transaction, where we’ll be an investor in that part of the world. And no rush to do anything...We wouldn’t need anybody there. It would be supplied and given to us by Israel. They’ll watch it, in terms of security." @GMA

Trump officials hinted they'll be looking for concessions and commitments from Japan in the form of investments in the U.S: "We all know that Trump pays a lot of attention to deficits...We welcome Japanese investments in the United States, including in the U.S. manufacturing sector." "There will be a lot of discussion about that, as well as exports from the U.S., most likely in the energy sector"

When Trump announced his vision for the US taking over Gaza, Trump said he'd been thinking about it for a long time. Sources tell me senior leaders in the White House were surprised by the timing, but not the content
Rubio to Trump during a 2016 presidential debate: “The Palestinians are not a real estate deal, Donald.”
