President Trump signed an executive order that freezes all aid to South Africa. The order also states ‘the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation.’ The executive order stems from a land expropriation law that was passed this January in South Africa that aims to address the country’s history of apartheid and colonialism. The “law says that there needs to be an agreement between the landowner and the person who is giving up their land.
