Some interesting and promising thoughts in here. Have been thinking a lot lately about the think tank sector, and how it can/should be better professionalised...access to research funding it currently cannot access has to be part of the mixer (probably the most important bit?)
When it comes to how @ESRC funds social science research, universities are close to the only game in town. Our systems and processes make it hard for other sorts of research organisation to even apply for funding.

@Sam_Dumitriu Yeah, displacement need not always be negative (as your move suggests) - been very interested in the JobsPlus programme from the US lately (now being trialled here), where those who moved out of areas undergoing regen went on to see higher incomes:

Very busy times at ICON these days. Really can’t wait to share more soon.
Busy few days for ICON including meeting with No.10 and @AlexJJNorris to discuss the work of the Commission. We believe that the evidence is clear that without a strong focus on neighbourhoods it will be hard for any government to deliver an ambitious agenda for national renewal. We look forward to seeing how the government brings a neighbourhood approach to key policy challenges in the coming months.
