I always tell my patients with recompensated cirrhosis following a long period of abstinence: “Congrats for this achievement. The liver is giving you a second chance. Stay vigilant. If your brain craves again for alcohol, don’t feel ashamed and contact me”

Is bariatric surgery safe and effective in patients with compensated cirrhosis ? If they have portal hypertension & varices, I don't think so. But a recent study in @NatureMedicine shows that it prevents decompensation.

@MassakTom @AASLDtweets @AEEHLiver @EASLedu Good point. In general, most studies on MASLD are focused on early or compensated disease and there are less studies on decompensated patients. These are clinical observations and most of them are also supported by studies. But we need much more studies on this disease state.
