Being poor is expensive. My belongings used to fit in a suitcase & were everything to me. The way those tents were torn down as if they’re garbage & not what keeps one physically safe & protects them from the elements. Imagine how much it took to save up to be able to buy a tent?

Witnessed a heartbreaking moment this afternoon at Shoppers. Two elders asked the pharmacist for a covid test & she told them they could get a RAT at checkout. They said they had done one & there was a faint line. She told them it meant they had covid. They weren't wearing masks.

They appeared to not understand that the faint line meant they probably had covid and they seemed surprised. They both said they weren't feeling well. I was wearing a mask & so was the pharmacist. What does this say about public health that people just don't know what to do?

I was born during a civil war and I don’t say this lightly but the horrors I saw by the time I was 10 would make some of y’all weep. I don’t understand how you can equate freedom & bravery with being asked to wear a piece of cloth that is to protect your health & your community.

I don’t know how people can minimize covid. My neighbour just took my husband to the ER. The first few days of Covid were fine. He didn’t have any symptoms and then they hit. Body chills. Severe headache that made him throw up. Fever. We tried. 7th wave got us. Now we wait.

@Lisawedmann So sad. I can't imagine what pharmacists are dealing with. And I don't think people are being malicious by not wearing masks. The messaging is that covid is over & you choose to wear a mask if you want and not necessarily what you should do to protect others when you're exposed.

I am grateful to nurses & doctors & to live in a province where I can go to a hospital & don’t have to worry about medical bills leaving us bankrupt. I am so thankful for neighbours who drop everything to help others even if it inconveniences them. Take good care of each other.

This is horrific. She had no medical training yet operated on children in Uganda. At least 105 kids died in her care. Bach & the charity, Serving His Children, have jointly agreed to pay about $9,500 to two of the mothers with no admission of liability.

My kids asked for @StephenCurry30 shoes & my daughter stopped wearing hers. Some kids teased her for wearing “boys’ shoes” 😩 After 2 days of not wearing them, she put them on again today. She said ‘I like them & I don’t care what people think. They’re cool.’😭😭 #WhoRunTheWorld

At hospital & in hospital gown etc and doc has ordered an infusion plus fluids because I’m dehydrated and weak. But because iron infusions aren’t covered by OHIP, I need to go pick up and pay for the infusion from the pharmacy. What do people do who don’t have private insurance?

My hemoglobin is so low that I’m getting another infusion. I don’t know how I would manage this without my family doc. “…if gone untreated, these masses can continue to get larger, cause more intense symptoms, and put physical pressure on other organs…”

He texted this to me from the ER. With what’s happening to public health, I’m angry & sad. I knew this day would come. I’ve had good friends make fun of people who masked. Got vaccinated. In all of this, we were scared. Trying to do what would keep our family and community safe.

Will be eternally grateful to Mark Daley. One of the kindest people I’ve ever worked with. Helped me to find a loved one who had been listed as a Jane Doe. Told me I was family and would do whatever he could to help. May he rest well. #RememberTheGreats

@OmayraIssa This is abhorrent. I’m very sorry Omayra. I hope that CBC is giving you the support you need. I know it’s no small feat to walk the halls you do now. You are representation in action and I’m very sorry that some feel threatened with your success. Walk tall ❤️

I was born during a civil war & lived in a refugee camp; I’m told this pic was taken there. I frequently saw dead bodies & a day never went by without hearing the rat-a-tat sound of a machine gun. On #RemembranceDay2019 I honour those who died so that we could live🙏 #NeverForget

@ambermac This moment should be a reminder of the importance of broadcast news & especially local news. Social media companies are showing what motivates them & we should believe them & pivot. I also wonder at what point the PM will give a national address to the wildfires. Did I miss it?

I don’t know who needs to hear this but some advice from my 8 year-old who recently went through a traumatic event at school. Last night she told me, “if you keep things in, they get bigger and if you talk about them, they get smaller.” Kids are great teachers.

Another thought…my husband & I have both had malaria and we both noted how similar they make you feel. What’s shocking is that malaria largely impacts children under the age of 5. Anyway. My children are awake, the puppy needs her walk. Breakfast needs to be made. Life goes on.

So many people have lost so much during this. Hubby’s dad died a week ago. Because of COVID-19 we’re not able to travel overseas for the funeral. Watching him grieve from afar has been heartbreaking. Thinking of all who haven’t been able to say goodbye to loved ones. Take care ❤️

I’m feeling better. The first few days were bad for me. I had all the things from sore throat to fever. I have 3 vaccines and can’t imagine how bad it could have been without them. One child is positive & has a sore throat. The one with asthma, is thankfully & somehow negative.

So I had another infusion today & as the kids say, I have the receipt(s). While my work benefits have been terminated, I"m lucky to fall back on my husband's plan. Was charged $517.48 + fees for a total of $529.47. @ONThealth could you please clarify as to why some pay for iron?

@CFifeKW Thank you so much. A few months ago, MOH tweeted this and still waiting for clarification because I've been paying for my iron infusions. Doesn't seem fair that women are the ones most likely to need iron infusions.

The mental gymnastics that Black, Indigenous & People of Colour go through when an announcement like this is made. Work letter ✅ uniform on ✅ work pass ✅ This isn’t theatrics. This is what you learn when navigating a world in which the colour of your skin is seen as a threat.

While I appreciate the complexity of navigating a pandemic, so many decisions during this have been made seemingly from one view point. One where space wasn’t an issue & home was safe; one where working from home and access to digital currency was a given and internet available.

Listening to @metromorning about the restrictions on what can be purchased at Dollarama by the province. Have there been thought about low income families who can’t order online who might see a restricted item as essential to them. A mess.
