As hard as I worked and tried, I came very close to living on the streets. I was lucky to get a tiny room in a rooming house. I shared the kitchen & one bathroom with 4 other women. I slept with the door locked, with a bucket to pee in at night. Homelessness can happen to anyone.
Whenever we discuss issues around homelessness, the word 'choice' seems to be thrown around.
Being homeless is not a choice.

I finally had my surgery yesterday. Grateful to all at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital for the care incl Helen who did my preop and made me feel safe. Especially to Dr. R the best surgeon. You gave me my life back. Thank you all for the support. I'm in pain but resting❤️

At hospital & in hospital gown etc and doc has ordered an infusion plus fluids because I’m dehydrated and weak. But because iron infusions aren’t covered by OHIP, I need to go pick up and pay for the infusion from the pharmacy. What do people do who don’t have private insurance?
My hemoglobin is so low that I’m getting another infusion. I don’t know how I would manage this without my family doc.

The mental gymnastics that Black, Indigenous & People of Colour go through when an announcement like this is made. Work letter ✅ uniform on ✅ work pass ✅ This isn’t theatrics. This is what you learn when navigating a world in which the colour of your skin is seen as a threat.
If your workplace is able to provide written letters that state you need to be at work at night PLEASE inquire about having one on hand and PRINTED

While I appreciate the complexity of navigating a pandemic, so many decisions during this have been made seemingly from one view point. One where space wasn’t an issue & home was safe; one where working from home and access to digital currency was a given and internet available.
