As it begins to tip into the high 30s and my son’s school has an early close, here is a diagram of a pretty typical prison cell.
Many cells don’t have windows which open properly or proper ventilation.
Many have 2 people sharing.
Imagine spending 22 hours locked in here today
There are thousands of prison officers working in these prisons today, including hundreds of current participants on
@unlockedgrads
. They are on the landings. In uniform. Trying to keep prisoners cared for and safe.
Please be thinking of them because they’re there for all of us

Natasha - it's incredible what passes for Certified Prisoner Accommodation these days, isn't it?

I will imagine that, and hopefully it will be a lesson to me. Don't break the law or you could end up in a very uncomfortable position. And if you're locked up for 22 hours a day you must've done something very bad indeed....

That beds a bunk and the crap windows they put in and not repaired so no or little ventilation. And I'm a prison officer and can spot the faults

I cannot image what life is like in hot prisons today. So many inmates have deep mental problems, addictions and baked in anger. For women prisoners, way from their children, life must be near impossible. Spare a thought for
#prisoners
and those who guard them.
@NPorter83
It's not supposed to be a hotel......it's a deterrent to folk who think the laws of the land don't apply to them.
Hopefully a few very hot or very cold nights in there might make them think about re offending.
I'm more concerned about pensioners reliant on the state pension.
@NPorter83
Please also bear in mind the many elderly care and nursing home residents paying £1000+ per week out of their hard earned savings for similar conditions

It would be interesting to see some data on temperatures in prison cells. Given the thick walls and small windows, I suspect they’re relatively cool. Shutters on South-facing windows would be good. Opening them might be inadvisable when the external temperature is so high.

No, I can't imagine being locked up for 22 hours in the room like that with somebody else. I also can't imagine doing something that's put me into a situation where I would spend 22 h in a cell like that with somebody else. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
