Corporal Thomas Bennett’s #MedalofHonor action began on this day in 1969, in the Chu Pa region of the Republic of Vietnam, during the Vietnam War. A medic, Bennett was the second conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor. Read his story:

Gunnery Sergeant John Canley’s multi-day Medal of Honor action in the Battle of Hue City, during the Vietnam War, ended #OTD in 1968. Canley rushed across fire-swept terrain to carry several wounded Marines to safety. Read his #MedalofHonor citation here:

#OTD in 1944, 1LT. Eli Whiteley earned the #MedalofHonor for his actions while leading a platoon in Sigolsheim, France. Despite sustaining severe wounds, he continued fighting. His leadership and determination helped crack enemy resistance in the area.

#OTD in 1944, 1LT John R. Fox earned his #MedalofHonor in #WWII. Fox sacrificed his own life to buy American forces vital time to re-organize to meet the German assault. Read his story here:

#OTD in 1944, Brigadier General Frederick Castle earned his #MedalofHonor for action in #WWII. Castle remained at the controls of his critically damaged bomber, giving his crew time to escape. He died during his action, putting the lives of his men above his own.
