#OTD in 1944, 1LT. Eli Whiteley earned the #MedalofHonor for his actions while leading a platoon in Sigolsheim, France. Despite sustaining severe wounds, he continued fighting. His leadership and determination helped crack enemy resistance in the area.

#OTD in 1944, Brigadier General Frederick Castle earned his #MedalofHonor for action in #WWII. Castle remained at the controls of his critically damaged bomber, giving his crew time to escape. He died during his action, putting the lives of his men above his own.
