Absolutely right. It was a pleasure to serve with @NickFletcherPPC on the @CommonsEd select committee. His commitment to promoting better education & health for boys was impressive, effective & obvious. Surprised that @jessphillips also on the committee at end of last

'Although Starmer is saying he wants growth, what he's actually doing is penalising wealth creators who already bear an enormous burden in taxation.' Former Tory MP, Miriam Cates, provides her view on whether the PM is lying about the economy to justify tax rises.

Labour’s priority is not growth. It’s redistribution. But there’s nothing to redistribute because soaring debt (thanks in part to Covid policies that Starmer supported) an aging population and half a century of declining birth rates have left UK with nothing in the tank.

Starmer thinks that you generate wealth by creating a National Wealth Fund - aka borrowing even more money and putting it in a different bank account.

Never forget what bankrupted Britain. 1. Lockdowns. 2. BoE’s QE program unwind. 3. Ukraine war and energy price guarantee. ALL of these were cross-party, consensus policies. Britain. Your elite is broken. Sort it out. 🇬🇧

Even if you would not let your nearly 16-year-old son travel around Europe by rail with a friend for a few weeks, do you want to live in a country where a parent who does make that choice is investigated for neglect? @KirstieMAllsopp did us all a favor by showing that kids need,

Labour claimed the Free Speech Act would allow hateful speech on campus - a complete & utter lie. If in fact they’ve junked it because of China influence, it would be a shameful betrayal of the academic freedom which has been so integral to our nation.

Parents should be free to decide when their own children are ready for different stages of independence. If teens aren’t allowed to take increasing levels of responsibility for themselves how are they supposed to be ready to leave home at 18?

4. @miriam_cates - Cates may have lost her seat in the last general election, but few current or former members maintain such a strong sense of mission. A degree in Genetics from Cambridge came in particularly handy in her spirited defence of children from the horrors inflicted

What happens when our law no longer aligns with observable reality, and denies basic truths that have been known by humans for tens of thousands of years? If the law can turn a man into a woman then our legal system - a foundation of Westen civilisation - is on shaky ground.

Caring for those with dementia is difficult & costly but it doesn’t follow that taxpayers should pay an extra £20k a year per patient to slow (not stop) the disease. The State - funded by declining numbers of working age taxpayers - can’t afford to bear all the costs of aging.

“There has always been a social & even financial cost to challenging the prevailing worldview. But it is individual acts of bravery - not anonymity - that catalyse real change…it is always best to speak truth, but we shouldn’t fool ourselves that there won’t be a price to pay.”

“Too often, the internet resembles a pre-civilisational free-for-all where liars and psychopaths can operate freely & without penalty, & where ‘users’ don’t face the normal consequences that – offline at least – make it socially & financially costly to be predatory & antisocial.”

Or we could recognise the devastating role that extreme online pornography is playing in VAWG & tackle the problem at source. Scenes of rape, sadistic violence & material that ‘harms society’ are all illegal in ‘offline’ porn - why are they allowed online?
