This afternoon, I honoured a courtesy call from the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) delegation led by H.E Mr. Mohamed Ware – Deputy Executive Secretary. Our discussions reflected on the progress of implementation of the Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) in Kenya, assessment of ongoing resilience-building efforts and opportunities for further cooperation in strengthening drought disaster resilience and programming. Mr. Ware acknowledged Kenya's significant role within the IGAD as a key player in promoting peace and security in the Horn of Africa region, particularly through its active participation in mediation efforts by facilitating cooperation on cross-border issues like trade and migration with neighbouring IGAD member states. Present were @harsama_kello , PS ASALs and Regional Development, Mohammed Gurhan, Ag. Director of Community Integration & Peace Building, Dr. Awira Anthony – Director, Planning, Coordination & Partnerships IGAD, Dr. Dereje Wakgira – Director, IGAD Centre for Pastoral Areas and Livestock Development (ICPALD), Dr. Ayan Mohamoud – Head of Partnerships, IGAD and Ms. Linda Sougbale – DES Protocol Assistant.

Glad to visit Cabinet Secretary for East Africa, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), and Regional Development, Hon. Beatrice Askul Moe, at her office in Nairobi. We discussed the deep collaboration between @IGADsecretariat and her Ministry in building resilience, food security, mitigation of climate impact, security and development of Arid and semi-arid lands, especially on the borderlands. We are grateful for Her Excellency’s leadership in these areas. We will continue to deepen this collaboration.

A productive meeting with Patrick Youssef @PYoussefICRC, ICRC Regional Director for Africa and Marie Dubeau, Head of ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi, Kenya. We discussed the Humanitarian situation in the Region, particularly the situation in Sudan. We emphasized the critical importance of respecting Humanitarian principles, the Geneva Conventions, and the opening and respect of humanitarian corridors and safe areas. We will continue to work on this collaboration in the service of victims of conflict and civilian protection.

Glad to recieve at @IGADsecretariat Headquarters in Djibouti, HE Rola Dashti @escwaes, UN Undersecretary General and Executive Secretary of Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCAW), accompanied by Dr. Nasser Alkahtani, the Executive Director of Arab Gulf Programme for Development @AGFUNDProgram We discussed collaboration in areas of common interest in sustainable agriculture, climate impact, crop and livestock insurance, leveraging digital platforms for micro-credit schemes and seed grants to vulnerable farmers in the IGAD Region. A very productive interaction, and we look forward to deepening this collaboration.
