Thank you Baltimore! Yesterday was one of the most special and memorable days of my life, and that’s all because of you! We celebrated my swearing-in as your next State’s Attorney in style, now it’s time to get to work Building Bridges for a Better Baltimore!
#WeOurBaltimore
Today, Baltimore decided it was time for a change. An enormous thank you to all of my supporters. I recognize that the job of helping build a safer Baltimore is a tremendous challenge. I am ready to lead—and to work with collaborators of all stripes to help make that a reality.
So often we talk about overturning an injustice, here is one being done without a conviction. How many times should the Baltimore City State’s Attorney be able to take a person to trial? Until they win? They were caught cheating does that mean anything?
Happy Anniversary to my best friend, partner, and wife. These seven years have flown past and I continue to discover more reasons to love you every day. Thank you for saying ”yes”.
Thank you to every supporter, volunteer, and donor to this campaign. We fought hard and will continue to fight hard for the citizens of Baltimore City!
This is not the end, only the beginning!
Great teamwork today
@CJBrownLaw
and Cate Stetson making the argument on behalf of
#AdnanSyed
. Hopefully, the court will rule favorably. The
#Serial
case continues...
The job of a State’s Attorney is to uphold justice in our city. A federal indictment of a sitting State’s Attorney is very concerning, but everybody deserves their day in court. Like all citizens of Baltimore, I’ll be curious to learn more about the facts of this case.
We just finished the final episode of
#TheCaseAgainstAdnanSyed
. Thank you
@HBODocs
for hosting a private screening and panel discussion about progressive criminal justice reform.
This morning, please take some time and check out the interview I did with
@RollingStone
about the
#AdnanSyed
case.
Early Vote- June 14th- June 21st
Election Day- June 26th
#batesforbaltimore
I'm running for the State's Attorney of Baltimore City.
I hear often from community members, business owners, and faith leaders that crime is out of control & violence is devastating families. I fought for the victims of the Gun Trace Task Force and I promise to fight for you.
It is with great sadness that I announce the loss of my beloved mother, Cleora Jean Bates. She transitioned peacefully at home Wednesday surrounded by love. She was the essence of kindness, selflessness & strength. Please keep my family in your prayers during this difficult time.
I want to extend my thanks to independent candidate
@ElectRoyaHanna
for endorsing me. I am officially Baltimore’s next State’s Attorney.
After a tough, nine month campaign since my announcement, I look forward to setting up my transition team and making Baltimore safe for all.
@BaltimoreSAO
had the video, watched the video, saw the officer lie, & still kept these kids in jail, but now they charge the officer? This is why that office should never investigate the police. Great work by the defense attorneys.
#RememberGTTF
Everyone involved in the criminal justice system
@BaltimoreSAO
knew about this. Baltimore Police received a tip that Gun Trace Task Force ringleader was robbing citizens in 2015, well before federal investigation surfaced - Baltimore Sun
Today is the day! I'm so thankful for the support I've received and the incredible people that I've met on this journey. It's time for change and I hope that you vote for me as your next Baltimore City State's Attorney.
#ElectionDay
#BatesforBaltimore
#ThankYouBaltimore
I appreciate the support I’ve gotten from those on BOTH sides of the aisle in the house AND senate for my legislative initiative going after those who possess illegal firearms by giving prosecutors the ability to offer substantive penalties for said offenses.
#BuildingBridges
Progressive prosecutors sign pledge to visit prisons and jails - I have always said the best States Attorney is a former defense atty, they understand how to make the system work for all. If we had that in Bmore Adnan & Keith Davis Jr. would be free.
Based on this, Keith Davis Jr’s conviction will b overtrnd with their 4 failed attempts
@BaltimoreSAO
plans to retry him a 5th time, its dangerous win-at-all costs culture and complete disregard of their responsibility as administrators of justice
A great early showing for Team
#BatesForBaltimore
through Election Day. Today- we supervise the mail-in ballot counting process. We do not take anything for granted. Thank you to all who have casted your ballots for me- now, we wait.
This morning I talked to
@iamwesmoore
- MD Gov Democratic Nominee. I want to thank him for his commitment to help send major resources to help make Baltimore safe.
I stand ready to support this fellow veteran in becoming our next Governor!
#batesforbaltimore
Not only am I leading this race in unmatched experience, transparency, and a boundless citywide coalition--
Today, I officially filed to appear on the ballot as Baltimore’s top choice for State’s Attorney. Let us charge forward together and build a better Baltimore with Bates!
During Hanukkah we are reminded of the things that matter the most - family, friends and life. During this season of light and love, I am sending you mine. From my daughter London and I, we send you heartfelt wishes for a season filled with LATKE love!
This is wrong in so many ways. A defense Attorney is Constitutionally required to protect and defend their clients rights. We need cameras in the court room so the public can see what is going on and the State and the Court can be held accountable.
Please join me along w/law enforcement leaders from across this state on Thursday, Jan 5th from 6-8P at Huber Memorial Church for a critical town hall as we discuss ways to curb crime in this city and strategies on how we take back our streets

This new Video is basically the Ofc’s body camera..
@BaltimoreSAO
had this video and still charged these kids. So the same
@BaltimoreSAO
that covered up the video is now supposed to investigate this ofc? New video disputes BPD and SAO
Last night,

As the confetti 🎊 and balloons 🎈fall to close out 2023, I remain humbled and appreciative to all those who entrusted me to represent you as your State’s Attorney. Have a safe and prosperous New Year Baltimore! Let’s go
@Ravens
The State’s Attorney is defending the Gun Trace Task Force and showing no accountability by saying that the ends justify the means. And we wonder why we have police corruption in Baltimore City.
#MosbyKnew
I want to express a very special thanks to a special supporter whom I visited today- Ms. Thelma Edwards, who turns 105 on Monday. An early happy birthday, and I can’t wait to start serving the older adults of this city when I take office.
“To be opposed to this 5-year max — which is not a mandatory minimum — sends the message that illegal firearm possession is not a big deal. I would argue no one who feels that way has ever spoken with a grieving mother who lost a child to gun violence.”
An enormous thank you to Ms. Rita Crews and the entire Belair-Edison Community Association for last night’s warm welcome and congratulations. I am honored and cannot wait to serve as Baltimore’s next State’s Attorney. Together, we can make a change.
Yesterday I announced the indictment of two BPD officers. If you haven’t received the message, let me make it crystal clear: My administration is about accountability, and we are going to hold those who violate the law accountable for their actions…
London and I had a great time watching Baltimores own Angel Reese return home to take on Charm City’s
@CoppinStateUniv
Much luv to

for making a little girls dream come true getting to meet her favorite athlete, showing her

inspiring her to dream big
It was an honor and a privilege having our Governor
@iamwesmoore
stop by for a visit today. It is an added relief to have a partner like him in Annapolis, along with our amazing city delegation, to push for the public safety policies necessary to make Baltimore a safer city!
It seems Marilyn Mosby doesn’t want to be held accountable in the same way she demanded her predecessor be accountable. It’s time we stop letting her point fingers at other people because as State’s Attorney you do not have the luxury to make excuses.
Thank you Dr Santelises 4 your recommendation 2 renew the charter of Baltimore Collegiate School 4 Boys. I urge the members of the school board to accept your recommendation. I may not have a vote in this matter but I’ll always use my voice for matters that benefit our community
How can you NOT look into the root cause of the GTTF? True leadership would not only look into the cause but put together a report from an outside agency and put safeguards into place to ensure this would NEVER happen again.
Pretty shocking comments as Baltimore’s police commissioner and city solicitor acknowledge they’ve not been looking into the root causes of the Gun Trace Task Force scandal in order to protect the city from liability and exposure, reports
@lukebroadwater
:
I had a great meeting with
@MayorBMScott
to discuss crime and a collaborative working relationship in the future. We both love Baltimore, and both of us want to build a safer city, as a team.
Had the pleasure of sitting down with our next State’s Attorney
@ivanjbates
to discuss how we can work collaboratively to make Baltimore a safer city for all. Excited for him to hit the ground running and look forward to a deep partnership with him and his office.
🚨 Endorsement Alert 🚨
This campaign is about making Baltimore safe and second chances.
Thank you Baltimore Sun!

I’m extremely encouraged about Maryland’s future after the recent announcement by Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks that she is seeking the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Ben Cardin.
Angela is a proven leader who effectively governs…
A year ago today,
@AP
projected me the winner of the democratic primary for Baltimore City States Attorney…and that blessed feeling hasn’t subsided yet! Thank you Baltimore 🙏🏽
Gun violence in Baltimore is out of control when the presence of police cannot discourage shooters. Now one teen is dead and another injured from a downtown shooting. I’m sending my prayers and my commitment that I’m ready to hold trigger pullers accountable. Enough is enough!
Let me take this opportunity to thank Senator
@SenatorMcCray
for cross-filing our bill in the State Senate SB889 which would make the maximum penalty for wearing, carrying or transporting an illegal firearm 5-years across the board.
#PublicSafetyPolicy
#MdGeneralAssembly
She’s why I ran for States Attorney in the first place, the reason I work as hard as I do and the sole of my existence.
Happy B-Day London Bear 🎁 - the past seven years have been the best years of my life! Love daddy 💝
It was an honor to witness history today as my friend & Maryland’s 1st African American Governor
@iamwesmoore
took the oath of office. I can’t wait to get to work w/him & Lt Governor
@arunamiller
building bridges for a safer & better Baltimore
#LeavingNoOneBehind
#WeOurBaltimore
If
@BaltimoreSAO
has a list of 100s of Ofcs with creditability issues, why are they still being used as witnesses? Why has this list not been turned over to defense atty’s as required by law? Did they not learn from the GTTF?
@DA_LarryKrasner
@Sifill_LDF
We have one choice this election cycle to restore integrity, accountability, leadership, and experience to the Office of the State's Attorney. Thank you,
@baltimoresun
- once again, this coalition is BY Baltimore, IN Baltimore, and FOR Baltimore. Onward.

.
Today I had the honor to testify in favor of HB742 - a Second Look Act - giving men and women incarcerated for a period of time the opportunity to come home & become successful members of society. We must give people Behind the Walls hope to earn a 2nd Chance at life
Thank you Baltimore! Your confidence is humbling, but I won’t rest on my laurels, my team and I promise to continue working day and night to protect you and your communities through smart on crime policies that hold offenders accountable for their actions!
#BuildingBridges
Wayne Jenkins of the
#GTTF
was included on the do not call list. SAO’s office continued to call him as a witness. The city has lost millions behind Jenkins's action. Entire families were destroyed because she did not take action.
I’m encouraged by the leadership of the city’s legislative delegation and ready to join them in Annapolis starting next week to push for legislation that strengthens the enforcement of gun laws and makes it equal across the board

I am humbled to have been included in the

and I am grateful to actor, Sean W. Ryal who portrayed me. This project captured a snapshot of my long, contentious history with Wayne Jenkins. (1 of 4)
Why shouldn’t her financial information be public? Why are we not holding her to the same standards as gubernatorial candidates, mayoral candidates? Is this what Transparcey and Accountability look like for
@BaltimoreSAO
From Annapolis to the nations capital, today was a whirlwind of meetings and briefings with state & federal lawmakers as I push for common-sense policies and increased funding to make Baltimore a safer city

“Today’s bill passage sends a clear and concise message that the members of the Maryland General Assembly are as concerned as I am about the surge in gun violence happening across our state.
I am grateful to those who made this possible, especially the leadership, including…
Cameras inside the court are long over due. Is Maryland really serious about transparency? This is needed as it will allow citizens to understand the role of the State’s Attorney, the Judge and the police and how the criminal justice system really works.
Tonight I was joined by my father at the premiere of “I Got a Monster” produced by my guy Kevin Abrams and

- a diverse coalition, from every corner of Baltimore. You are the reason for our momentous surge through Election Day. I can’t do it without your support. Tonight was a huge win for us. Our city needs a leader, and I can’t wait to lead. Lets get it done.
Recently,
@BaltimoreSAO
identified 100s of officers unable to testify because of allegations of misconduct. The city paid out a 75k settlement for a case where there’s an allegation of misconduct by Ms. Mosby. Wouldn’t that qualify as a credibility issue?
I had an amazing time with Baltimore legend
@richardsher
on his show
#SquareOff
discussing my priorities as your State’s Attorney, as well as what I would do as
@Ravens
GM. Check out the interview here:
Just found out another young man, who I have known for many years, was also murdered on Thursday. To listen to his mother cry was truly heartbreaking and I am just speechless. Why? Baltimore this violence makes no sense and has to stop.
The experienced arson investigators
@BaltimorePolice
are gone and
@BaltimoreSAO
doesn’t have any prosecutors who have taken an arson case to trial. There is a serial arsonist and Baltimore is literally burning. Why are we not talking about this?
Official Invitation: We are 21-days away from when I’m officially sworn-in as the 26th Baltimore City States Attorney since 1854. It would be my honor for you to join me for this historic occasion down at the War Memorial. RSVP for your free seat:
I had an hour and a half of free time, really no free time in campaign season, so I knocked doors. A great reception; everyone wants change.
#BatesforBaltimore
As of May, the State’s Atty’s Office had a total of 36 murder cases. They lost 16 of 36 cases. Meaning they have a 55% conviction rate. When I was in school, 55% was a failing grade. Baltimore deserves better!

In less than 2 hrs, Balto City jury said NOT GUILTY on all charges against our client today in a murder trial. State refused to call Homicide Det. 2 stand. How could
@BaltimoreSAO
present a case & not call Det? They played checkers while Tony Garcia played chess. Way to go, Tony!
