The best argument against the 'politics doesn't matter' & 'all politicians are the same' line is what's happened over the past 2 weeks with Trump. Catastrophic to American short and long-term interests and destructive to the world.

USAID website erased with a holding message that all staff globally on leave as of Friday. None of the pages are working. Less than 1% of the federal budget goes to aid, but it's the largest donor worldwide. Tiny amount for the US, massive consequence for the poorest.

All of this chaos because people were unhappy over their *eggs* being too expensive. They're only going up in price bc of avian flu. Which is being ignored given health agencies are being gutted.

Death rates in Gaza are far higher than official reports. We knew this was going to happen without peace. From Dec 2023: 'Ultimately, unless something changes, the world faces the prospect of half a million human beings dying'

Trump again says population of Gaza is 1.7 million. It was 2.4 million before the war. We know as many as 200,000 left through Rafah. Seems a clear admission half a million have been killed

I think RFK would be a dangerous & terrible head of HHS- but itā€™s worth pulling apart his policy positions on scientific grounds. Some are deadly, some have no basis in facts & some are common-sense like removing additives & improving school lunches

An entire answer on egg prices and not one mention of avian flu- H5N1- spreading on poultry farms with high lethality in chickens. I guess they're pretending it doesn't exist and hoping the public don't make that link either.

REPORTER: Egg prices have skyrocketed since President Trump took office. So what specifically is he doing to lower those costs? LEAVITT: When Joe Biden was in the Oval Office or upstairs sleeping -- I'm not so sure -- egg prices increased 65 percent

Hey American scientists-> I've been abroad for a while and absolutely love Scotland, working at Edinburgh Uni with London nearby & close links to the entire world. And our health secretary believes in science, facts, research & germ theory.

Iā€™m recording a podcast tomorrow about being an American expat - 20 years (!!) Iā€™ve been abroad. Iā€™ve loved my time in all the countries Iā€™ve lived in. Thereā€™s a humility in seeing other societies & integrating & learning. Whatā€™s your take-away from living abroad (if you have)?

Egg prices in the States- which became such an issue during the election- continue to rise because of *bird flu*- itā€™s killing off chickens & spreading on poultry farms. If you want cheaper eggs, then deal with avian flu first.
