One of the big up sides of the way music technology has gone is the democratisation of production – somebody with very little money can now make and release music. One of the small downsides is the amount of awful music that is now being released. 🙃
The bass noise from ‘reach out’ was sampled from intalex ‘I like it’ then time stretched. That was the first record I bought of Marcus Intalex (it was made with Mark).from that track all through his career his music really touched my soul, probably more than anyone else. RIP♥️
gutted to hear about fats passing. i went around the world with him a few times and loved every minute. he was always larger than life, and connected with people everywhere. love ya fats 💔
Golden Girl isn't on Spotify or online much other than YouTube so I thought I'd do a video especially. IMO it's one of the most perfect drum and bass tracks ever made, I played it in every set for at least 5 years. RIP Con ♥️♾️
3 times I’ve gone to hire a car and when they ask if I want automatic or manual I say ‘semi automatic’ and I know one day the person is gonna say ‘BLAP BLAP BLAP’ 😂😂 but no luck so far😂😂😂
the way racism is so pervasive in this world makes me feel pure sadness. Few things in the world make me feel so down. We are all equal. No race is superior to any other. Fuck racists.
If you have any of my music on your hard drive please share with it with anyone you think might like it. I’ve been saying that for years and years and it still seems like the perfect sentiment for someone who makes mysic they love to encourage others to share it. ❤️🙏🏻
I know I’m late to the conversation but IMO dnb and all the bass music I love wouldn’t exist without black culture and people.
Racism is bad for everyone. Let’s stand together to make permanent change, and make racism a thing of the past ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻♥️
It’s been just over 10 years since I stopped playing (only) dnb. Time flies eh… I still get asked ‘when are you coming back’ - I’ve been making dnb along with other stuff for the last few years, and will continue making all different stuff. Never been happier!!
I'm defo addicted to making music. It's 6am on a Saturday and I've been in the studio for an hour already. Not sure where commitment and discipline end and addiction begins but I think it was around 1997😂😂😂
I'd love to hear Splash 'Babylon' at the Sanctuary one more time. Or SS 'Rollidge' at Paradise Club Islington.... Or 'Midnight Request Line' at Plastic. If you could hear one tune at a long gone venue again what track would it be and where? :D
It’s more than 10 years now since I started playing and making house - and more than 11 since I played an all upnfront dnb set. That’s gone quick 😯 for the last 2-3 years I’ve been playing mixed sets most places, suits me best I think🕺🏻🕺🏻
I saw the legend
@dieclearskyz
earlier - he said he might record a couple of videos about his old tracks. If anyone would be interested in hearing about that send him a message. I know I would!!
When I was doing that mix for
@maryannehobbs
I thought ‘better keep it mellow, daytime radio and all that’. Got halfway through and decided to throw that out the window - check the switch at 15 mins😅
The weather in London today is like nature letting off a dubplate. Tmro it’ll seem like a vague memory then test presses will drop in May, with full summer release in July. 🌞
I’ve re-recorded super sharp from the same samples - I posted a clip on insta, but just to be clear - it’s exactly the same as the original, just mixed slightly better. A few people have said is there a super sharp 2022 refix - it’s not a refix/remix/etc!
I’m gonna be playing a 3 hour set at fabric later this month. Gonna have a real dig and find a couple of old gems. I’ll be playing house/bass/jungle/dnb old and new. Come and shake a leg with me🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
was just on the phone to
@djbrockie
- really had to work hard not to do it. soon as I got off the phone shouting out 'broooooocklieeeeeeeeeee' 😂bigup Brock always a pleasure chatting :D
I think this is the first floor I was ever on – Tasco’s warehouse 1992. Me and swift played in room two and the promoter liked what we did so they asked us to play in room one as well, we were shitting ourselves but excited as hell!! Golden times!!
Re the tutorial livestream - it is for complete beginners…people asking if I’ll be deconstructing old tunes or whatever - I may do that in other sessions, but tomorrow is more like ‘this is a fader, when you move it up, the sound gets louder’ - that kinda thing.👍🏻👍🏻
When I hang out with non English friends I’m reminded how much slang we use in the uk. I just said ‘don’t worry I’ll cough up’ when the bill for dinner came and they had no idea what I meant😂😂😂
Spent the day with someone from
@Ableton
- this software is 😍😍😍😍😍 if you’re working in logic it’s deffo worth giving it a look!! I switched and much prefer ableton now👍🏻👍🏻
Major labels used to get gassed over the radio 1 playlist, now they seem more interested in Spotify’s new music fridays. Interesting watching things change over time…
Monday 7pm (GMT) catch me livestreaming a music production tutorial for absolute beginners on twitch /dj_zinc and youtube /djzinc - I’ll be using
@Bitwig
but what I’ll be doing translates to other DAWs. If you ever wanted to learn how to make music - get involved!!
This music has given me so much. I have beautiful friends of all colours and cultures who I love and respect dearly and no minority racist attitude can ever change that . Together we are stronger 💯❤
