New, faster media matching ⚡ When a note is written on an image or video, it automatically shows on all posts with matching media. We accelerated the matching process, and since this update, the majority of notes have started showing on matching posts within ~90 seconds. Getting helpful notes out to people super quickly.

Starting today, you can add a source when you request a Community Note. This makes it easier for note writers to understand what context might be helpful on a post, so it can accelerate the process of a note appearing. Initially you can add another X post as a source. We know people sometimes see a reply or quote with useful added context, and then request a note. This makes it easy to send that info to prospective note writers.

A Community Note written on a video automatically shows on all posts with matching videos. We just improved the video matching system and it’s now identifying +7% more matches — getting notes in front of more people faster.

When Community Notes expands to new countries, notes typically initially have lower visibility while we measure how helpful those new notes are to people from different points of view. Today, we’re making notes from many new expansion countries visible to everyone on X. A roughly 8% increase in the number of helpful notes visible globally. Today, we’re giving more contributors the ability to write notes on images & videos, which show on posts with matching media. To ensure the notes are sensible and helpful to show on other posts containing the same media, we’re adding a new rating question: If there’s agreement, the note will show on matching posts. Introducing Lightning Notes ⚡ People want fast notes. So we re-architected the system to score notes faster. Since rolling this out, we’ve seen notes go live in as little as 14m33s after being written, and 18m20s after the post itself was written. Ludicrously fast? Now reality! Think about what needs to happen for useful context to be added to a post: • Post has to be seen • Post has to be evaluated — is it accurate? is the image real? is the video from today or 5 years ago? etc • Sources need to be found — reverse image search? original video? raw data? helpful article or analysis? • Proposed context needs to be written • Proposed context needs to be reviewed by people from different perspectives for helpfulness, accuracy, etc Thanks to Community Notes’ 800k+ global contributors and our new scoring architecture, it is now possible for this entire process to happen in under 20 minutes. Contributors can also write notes on specific images or videos. These media notes show automatically on new posts with matching media, without any additional work from contributors. Speed matters. External research made possible by notes’ open source data has shown that notes reduce sharing of posts by ~60%, increase deletion of posts by ~80%, and are highly accurate. On top of that, notes are found helpful by people from different perspectives, and people from across the political spectrum find notes significantly more trustworthy than traditional misinformation flags. They’re automatically showing on over 8000 posts and have been seen over 200M times. • Over 60 notes starting showing <1hr after the post itself went live. They’re automatically showing on over 1000 posts and have been seen over 21M times. Rate notes faster on iOS ⚡Just launched an update to the X app that lets you tap to rate a note ~2x faster. Some contributors had an early version of this for the past few weeks. Now on for everyone, with even more speed.

Starting today, we’re admitting Community Notes contributors in 197 countries and territories around the world. With this expansion, we’re now admitting from all countries in which we have supported phone carriers needed for signup. Welcome 🌍🌏🌎
