canine Jekyll. K9 Jekyll passed away on May 15, after being rushed to the vet for an emergency. They would later discover K9 Jekyll had a mass on his heart that ruptured.

On Tuesday afternoon Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Sheriff Michelle Cook to finish out the rest of the term previously held by former sheriff Darryl Daniels. She will be officially sworn in in January.
When the uniforms of our deputies become worn and no longer usable, retired employee, Kit Peterson has found a new use for them. She initiated a new recycling program, volunteering her time, to create teddy bears and now Christmas wreaths.

Regretfully our nation has lost another police officer. Sean Tuder, a Clay County native, was shot and killed today in Mobile, Alabama as he and his team were attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
Sean graduated from Fleming Island High School and still has family here. 1/2

One year ago today Clay County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ben Zirbel passed away following a motorcycle crash while on duty. Deputy Zirbel is sorely missed within the CCSO family. We remember him always, but today, especially.
Children already lining the streets to show respect to Deputy Ben Zirbel! What an example for everyone! Our kids of Clay County never cease to amaze us! We will keep everyone posted as the procession moves.

Today we announce the passing of retired canine “Cygan”. K9 Cygan joined our agency in April of 2009 and was assigned to Detective M. Lowery. The two worked as partners until Cygan’s retirement in May of 2016, at which time he stayed with Detective Lowery and his family. 1/2
He’s 92 years young (today!), he met several presidents, he’s a WWII veteran, and every day he serves his community for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office helping kids.

It was truly an honor to have the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations with us today. Their agency honored Deputy Hawkins for his life-saving medical care provided to one of their agents, Drew Stokes, after he was ambushed in September...
Saturday, our street crimes unit happened to be patrolling Wells Road when they came across a vehicle that captured their attention. Clay County, we are not making this up! What got our attention was the fact that the vehicle had a paper tag on it with the tag number written...
