There’s a lot of buzz about aliens & the Lizzo drama but are y’all following what’s happening in Africa? World history is unfolding right before our eyes. Neocolonialism is taking a big blow & France is losing its grip on the continent. The implications for Haiti are significant.

#Haiti was the first country in the world to permanently abolish slavery & the slave trade. Haitians dealt a decisive blow to the entire system of slavery. Our ancestors became a threat to the existing world order. Haitian history is world history. Happy Haitian Heritage Month!🇭🇹

Black History Month is incomplete if we don’t recognize the role of Haiti in the advancement of black people. As the 1st free black republic, the only nation formed b/c of a successful slave revolt & the 1st nation to forever abolish slavery, Haitian history is black history. 🇭🇹

Haiti is the birthplace of human rights. Our ancestors fought for the rights of every black person in the world in the Battle of Vètyè on Nov. 18th, 1803. Haiti became the first nation to forever abolish slavery & then Haitians began their quest to free other enslaved Africans.🇭🇹

Today, I’m reminded that even in the darkest of times, there is hope. As a Haitian American, this means I can witness troubling times in Haiti but still wholeheartedly believe my country will rise. I will hold on tight to this hope as I fight for change. 🇭🇹 #VivAyiti #Haiti

Today I spent time at the Malfety canal but Friday I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at a conference at Harvard University. Hosted by Haitians at Harvard, this gathering explored ways we can leverage our education to help impact #Haiti . I absolutely love my job. 🇭🇹✊🏿

Haitian diaspora, God made you Haitian for a reason. Discover that purpose, Haiti will be better for it. Now more than ever, #Haiti needs the unique giftings, successes, and the efforts of her children across the globe. Surely, Haiti will rise. ✊🏿🇭🇹 #VivAyiti

I spent the day traveling across Haiti’s North East Department visiting 4 of our partner schools. Although I’m physically exhausted, my heart is beyond full! 🥰Nothing compares to seeing children in their element.🇭🇹❤️✊🏿

Haitian women are at the center of Haiti’s economy & society. I don’t need to read the statistics, I see it with my own eyes. They birth then care for the children & the home. They’re farmers, merchants & vendors. They’re teachers, lawyers, CEO’s. They’re the backbone of Haiti.🇭🇹

How can the Haitian diaspora help #Haiti right now? Awareness 🚨. Stay vigilant & updated because every hour things are changing. These moments are crucial. Look closely & you’ll see the US govt. trying to tighten its grip on Haiti’s neck as our people struggle to break free.🇭🇹

@mikaben gave his life to Haiti. He carried our flag on his back until his dying breath. At one point before singing you can see he was in deep pain and yet he persevered. It’s almost as if the same flag he was fighting for gave him strength to finish what he began. ✊🏿🇭🇹 #Mikaben

The first group of 400 Kenyan police arrived in Haiti this morning. They say they’re there to help. They say the troops won’t fight in our streets like in the past-they’ll simply train our police. They say our vulnerable will be protected. I don’t believe them but time will tell.

I visited the mural at the University of Florida’s Institute of Black Culture & I’m still so blown away that I’m featured on the wall. Wherever I go, I represent my homeland, my country, my people & so it means so much to me that I get to be on this wall of pioneering leaders. 🇭🇹

Meet Peterson. He’s 11 years old and is already seen as a hero at the 2nd canal. Everyone calls him “Ti Dessalines” because since Day 1 he’s been at the canal supporting the movement. I put my Haiti flag pin on him because he embodies everything our flag stands for. Viv Ayiti! 🇭🇹

How the Haitian diaspora can help Haiti:1. Become knowledgeable about our history. History often repeats itself. 2. Become vocal. Use your voice & privilege to advocate for Haiti. 3. Find a movement creating positive change in Haiti & support it (NGOs, schools, businesses etc).🇭🇹

Keep Haiti in your prayers. For days, Haitians across several cities in the south have been impacted by severe floods. Over 40 Haitians have died & thousands are misplaced. I have 4 trainers who are safe but have been unable to come home to Okap after a mission due to conditions.

Weddings in Cap-Haïtien are a whole vibe. My sister just got married here, overlooking the entire city, with the Citadel far off within view the whole time. Cap-Haïtien should be a hot wedding destination because it’s simply breathtaking. 🇭🇹

I just read, “USA has become Haiti” and “America is officially a third world country… like Haiti”. It’s interesting. #Trump , a former U.S. president is almost assassinated by a U.S. citizen on U.S. territory & yet we still find a way to make this about throwing shade on #Haiti .

To those who are hyperfixated on generalizing insecurity in our capital to every province, depicting all of Haiti as dangerous, it’d be nice if you also highlight Haiti’s wins. Okap is SOLD OUT yet again. The city is experiencing high levels of visitors for the Intl Jazz Festival

Who knows the streets of #Haiti best? Who knows our language, history & context better than us? The only solution to our crisis is a Haitian-led one. Let’s use the $600 million reserved for #Kenya to protect our ports, reinforce our armed forces & get El Salvador’s guidance .🇭🇹
