Us Brummies love hosting, so it’s great to welcome Conservative Party Conference back to the city.
With the future of the party on the agenda, I hope we’ll see a focus on moderate conservatism that delivers - not an obsession over ideology. It’s how we were successful in the WM.
Pleased the rail connectivity work
@AndyBurnhamGM
& I commissioned has come to fruition.
The decision over HS2 north was always wrong, & so I hope this case for a new rail line will be brought to life.
The private sector will be key - as they’re already proving with this work.
Any suggestion that Birmingham's art should be sold to help the city council balance its books is for the birds.
Arts & Culture is the lifeblood of Brum and the wider West Midlands. The sector needs protecting and growing, not sabotaging.
Great to welcome the Observer back to Brum and to show-off UoB’s marvellous Exchange building 🪙
With Conservative leadership hopefuls in the WM over the weekend my message for them is simple - be bold, show real leadership, & don’t obsess over Reform👇🏻
Winning investment is key to being Mayor, & so I'm really pleased to have left such a strong position for my successor👇
📈 72% rise in FDI projects
⭐️ Brum top city outside of London
🌍 The WM a top-10 European region
A fantastic achievement - thank you to all involved 👏
The Conservatives lost the election because we stopped delivering, not because of ideology.
From immigration & taxation to housing & net-zero, my party has to appeal to the majority if they want to succeed - not be seduced by Reform.
Full thoughts👇🏻
Keir Starmer deserves his plaudits, and it's encouraging to hear him immediately focus on the notion of public service.
But as the dust settles it's only right to recognise those dedicated local MPs we've lost, who selflessly served their communities & embodied public service👇🏻
A huge congratulations to one of the very best -
@nickowentv
What Nick has done for the West Midlands as the face of evening news - alongside his charity work & using his cancer experience to inspire others - is truly remarkable.
He deserves every accolade that comes his way.
The lesson of history is UK elections are won from the centre
That’s why I’m such a believer in moderate & inclusive Conservatism, and why I believe my party needs to regain the centre ground
That - plus my views on the GE campaign and a bit about life - with
@SophyRidgeSky

I wasn’t expecting to post again for a while, but I’ve been slightly taken aback by the number of messages. Your support means a lot to me at a testing time.
In fact it seems many of you already have my next move planned out before I’ve even thought about it!
For those who have
Absolutely gutted to be so near, yet so far.
It has been my honour to serve citizens in the WM for the last seven years, and I hope I have done it with dignity & integrity.
I am proud of what we have achieved together and I hope my successor can build upon it.
Thank you all.
And that's it - polling stations are now closed!
Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support today - every vote really does matter & your support means the world to me ❤️
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the brilliant & dedicated activists who have braved the wind, rain and even hail to spread my ambitious plans to every corner of the WM these last few weeks 💚
It really means so much, thank you 👏🏻
Hundreds of doors knocked, thousands of leaflets delivered & thousands of steps walked so far 💪🏻
Today you can back my fully-funded, ambitious plan that will deliver for the West Midlands at no extra cost to you 🫵🏻
Thank you for all your support so far 🤝🏻
Being Mayor is an executive role, almost like being Chief Executive for the West Midlands. And YOU get to decide who does that job.
You have a choice of demonstrable leadership ability & consistent financial competence, or untried leadership & unfunded financial commitments.
One of my first acts as Mayor was to create the Homelessness Taskforce ✅
A nice symmetry with the last day of this term where we’ve got the Renters Reform Bill amended 👏🏻
The WM’s efforts have ensured society’s most vulnerable can still access stepping stone accommodation 🤝🏻
This election couldn’t be closer, I need your support to continue to deliver my ambitious - and funded - plan 🗳️
✅ 425,000 NEW jobs & training opportunities
✅ TRIPLE the number of social homes being built to 1,700 a year
✅ Expand the Metro even further
And so much more 📈
🚨WE’RE ON THE SHORTLIST FOR THE INVICTUS GAMES🚨
Absolutely thrilled to say we’re in the final two to host such a fantastic celebration of the armed forces & sport 👏🏻
Working with
@JohnnyMercerUK
we’ll put on the best one yet - at NO EXTRA COST to council taxpayers 💪🏻
