Thanks to American voters, we are back in the
#ParisAgreement
. America is once again poised to lead the world on climate action, working with our allies to build a better future for us all. Time to get back to work!
Today’s election results mark a significant turning point for the future of Brazil and demonstrate the power of democracy to advance progress for our planet and its people. (1/2)
Today’s decision is a disappointment, but it's not a surprise. It's the result of coordination by the fossil fuel lobby to dismantle progress toward climate solutions. This ruling does not mean we are out of options! We must call on Congress to pass climate legislation. 1/2
A superb choice by President-elect
@JoeBiden
of
@JohnKerry
as Climate Envoy. Kerry’s experience and passion are exactly what we need to restore American leadership abroad and repair the alliances that are crucial to solving the climate crisis.
As President, Joe Biden has been — and is — an exceptional leader. He is responsible for developing and signing the most significant investment in climate solutions into law. He helped our nation navigate a global pandemic, ushered in an economic recovery that has created
Nancy Pelosi has been the greatest, most effective Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in American history. Thank you

! Kamala has made climate and environmental justice a top priority in her career in public service, and I know she will continue to be a strong advocate in the White House.

The Inflation Reduction Act has the potential to be a historic turning point. It represents the single largest investment in climate solutions & environmental justice in US history. Decades of tireless work by climate advocates across the country led to this moment. 1/3
In America, no one person or political party can alter the unassailable principle that the rule of law prevails. Every vote must be counted in this election, and the will of the American people will determine the outcome. We must remain calm. Democracy will win the day.
Senators should reject Mike Pompeo’s nomination to be Secretary of State. He denies the climate crisis, and has been doing the bidding for fossil fuel interests his whole career. The American people deserve better.
Reminder: Despite President Trump’s best efforts, the U.S. cannot officially withdraw from the
#ParisAgreement
until one day after the next Presidential election. And then it takes just 30 days for a new President to get us back in. This decision is in the hands of the voters.
President-elect Biden has assembled not only an “A” team to lead his climate agenda forward, but an “A+” team! Each appointee is ready on Day 1 to take on the urgent, existential threat of the climate crisis, while creating millions of new jobs & protecting frontline communities.
It's been a long time coming, but the Senate has finally advanced transformative climate legislation. Thank you to Senators Schumer and Manchin and to every Senator who fought to ensure that climate action was a priority in this bill. Now to the House and to the President's desk!
Today's GOP-led vote in the TN House disenfranchised nearly 150,000 voters whose representatives rightfully pushed to reform TN’s insanely dangerous gun laws after the horrific mass murder at The Covenant School last week. What a historically sad day for democracy in Tennessee.
COP28 is now on the verge of complete failure. The world desperately needs to phase out fossil fuels as quickly as possible, but this obsequious draft reads as if OPEC dictated it word for word. It is even worse than many had feared. It is “Of the Petrostates, By the Petrostates
Great to see

today. Once again, I was struck by her potent and sobering call to action. Nobody speaks truth to power as she does: “Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fueling the flames by the hour.”
I offer my congratulations to President-elect Lula da Silva. The world looks forward to renewed leadership from Brazil in driving the solutions to the climate crisis and halting biodiversity loss. (2/2)

! Georgia has voted for what millions of Americans are demanding: Action on the climate crisis. Millions of new, good paying jobs. Green innovation. Protecting low-income communities from pollution. Let’s get to work!
President Trump is once again defying a majority of American citizens, states, and businesses. His offshore drilling proposal threatens our coastal communities, just to prop up a dying fossil fuel industry.
I am saddened to hear the news of Bill Richardson’s passing. He was an exceptional public servant, a relentless advocate for those unjustly held overseas and a true friend. I send my deepest condolences to the Richardson family during this difficult time.
This comes at the end of a term that will be remembered for moving America backwards. To address the climate crisis, we must address the democracy crisis. We must harness this moment to galvanize change. My statement on WV v EPA: 2/2
A new UN report has confirmed that we are not on track to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
This latest report card shows that we are failing, not because we don't know the answers — but because we aren't doing our homework.
We need to rapidly phase out fossil fuels,
Today, America looked into the abyss created by Donald Trump and my fervent hope is that even his enablers will now finally draw back in horror. And that today will serve as the beginning of healing our democracy.
There is no war on American energy. America should lead on clean energy! Smart leaders are tapping into this unprecedented opportunity. Doesn’t
@RealDonaldTrump
know that US solar jobs are growing 17X the average job growth?

In the wake of the horrifying events at former President Trump’s rally today, we must join together to wholeheartedly and unequivocally condemn political violence. The former President and those affected today are in my prayers.
The President is imposing a rule that will increase pollution by nearly a billion tons of CO2 & result in drivers paying more at the pump. Bad policy & reckless timing as Americans cope w/ a pandemic exacerbated by air pollution. He must be held to account.
The Trump administration justifies its rollback of methane standards by saying it will be a cost-saver for industry. But what about the costs to our health, and the costs of the climate crisis? We need to put people and our planet over polluters’ profits.
@BillClinton
Thanks,
@BillClinton
. It was a privilege to serve our nation with you for those 8 yrs. Along with our team, we were able to do a lot of good for a lot of people.
The great American poet Wallace Stevens wrote: “After the final no there comes a yes. And on that yes the future world depends.” Today, the US finally said yes to climate action.
Let us embrace this moment as a tipping point for climate action – in America and around the world.
Thanks to President Macron for pledging to replace U.S. climate science funding. While you step up to fill the leadership void left by the Trump administration, America’s citizens, businesses, states & cities stand with you to meet our

goals.
Je souhaite que l'Europe se substitue aux Américains. Malgré leur retrait, pas 1 centime ne manquera au GIEC (Groupe d'experts intergouvernemental sur l'évolution du climat). La France sera au rendez-vous.

Rosalynn Carter was a remarkable leader. Unwavering in her partnership with her husband, Jimmy, she built upon the work they did together by championing the causes of mental health, human rights, and the needs of children around the world. I was blessed to have been able to work
It's a mistake for the

One of my fondest memories with President Carter was joining him at a Habitat for Humanity project in Atlanta. Jimmy, your dedication to public service is an inspiration. Thank you for all that you’ve done for our country in your 99 years.
The President doesn’t get it. Solar & wind represent the fastest growing job sectors. Costs of renewable electricity are declining rapidly. There is a Global Sustainability Revolution happening & he’s boasting about more dirty & outdated oil and natural gas projects?

I am profoundly saddened by the loss of Joe Lieberman. First and foremost, he was a man of devout faith and dedication to his family. My heart goes out to Hadassah, Hana, Matt, Rebecca, Ethan, his sisters, and all those grieving his loss.

On Christmas Eve, 50 years ago, our world was forever changed with ‘Earthrise’. After a tumultuous year, this powerful photo gave us a new perspective on our shared home. In 2019, let’s remember how fragile Earth is, and how much more we have in common than what divides us.

No deal is perfect and we need many more actions to solve the climate crisis. Yet, this bill is a long overdue and necessary step to ensure the US takes decisive action on the climate crisis that helps our economy and provides leadership for the world by example. 2/3

Good for Chris Wallace for asking serious and well-researched questions about the climate crisis in tonight’s debate. Millions of Americans are feeling the impacts today. Wallace has good news judgment, professional courage and INTEGRITY.
The carmakers are reneging on a fair deal – in order to be bailed out by taxpayers, they agreed to strong emissions standards. Following through on this deal is critical to responding to the urgent threat of the climate crisis & ensuring that carmakers compete in future markets.
Brilliant decision for
@TIME
to choose
@GretaThunberg
as its Person of the Year. Greta embodies the moral authority of the youth activist movement demanding that we act immediately to solve the climate crisis. She is an inspiration to me and to people across the world.
One of the most important lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic is that when scientists are warning about a looming threat, we all ought to listen.
Today, the

Thanks to the journalists, advocates, and citizens for exposing Mr. Pruitt as a destructive, unethical, and wasteful head of the

Here’s a real national (and global) emergency: Greenhouse gas emissions have started increasing again. We need to urgently step up efforts to solve the climate crisis while there’s still time.
Americans are demanding a

DNC members: don’t hide from this opportunity to let candidates showcase their big ideas and solutions to the greatest threat facing our country and planet.
The decision at

to finally recognize that the climate crisis is, at its heart, a fossil fuel crisis is an important milestone. But it is also the bare minimum we need and is long overdue. The influence of petrostates is still evident in the half measures and loopholes

In his speech today, the President erroneously pointed to natural gas as a clean energy solution. Fracking is a losing game – it produces a dangerous carbon fuel that’s worsening the climate crisis. 1/4
The awe-inspiring "Blue Marble" photo was taken 50 years ago today, yet each time I see it, it serves as a fresh reminder of our planet's beauty and fragility. This is humanity's only home, and we must do our best to protect it.
Tearing families apart and putting kids in an Archipelago of Cages is not the America that we know and love. We are at a fork in the road: one way is right; the other wrong. The President is long overdue in ending this cruel & inhumane policy.
Today marks the beginning of a new commitment to self-government by, of and for all of our people. Here’s my statement on

Stephen Hawking's historic breakthroughs in science advanced humanity’s understanding of the universe even as the extraordinarily courageous life he led inspired us all. He will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten.

Fossil fuels are subsidized 38x more than renewables globally. Now the Canadian government wants to spend billions more of taxpayer dollars to increase its country’s contribution to the climate crisis. This is not in the public interest. We must keep fighting to

The fossil fuel industry has started to say the quiet part out loud a little more often: they want to continue pumping fossil fuels forever.
And, of course, they are still pushing phony ‘solutions’ intended to delay real climate action. I explain in my latest from

America’s leading scientists have confirmed what Mother Nature has been making plenty clear: the climate crisis is real and urgent. If the Administration won't listen & if the federal gov't won’t act, states, cities, businesses, investors, & citizens will.
Congratulations to this historically diverse class of representatives being sworn into Congress today. Your arrival in DC is an encouraging sign of our potential to restore balance to our government and respond to pressing issues like the climate crisis.
The fossil fuel industry's hold over our political and financial systems blocks ambitious action on the climate crisis at every turn. We can't afford to put their false solutions ahead of a just transition to clean energy. Learn why in my latest

Electricity from new wind and solar power is now cheaper than from existing coal plants in many regions of the US. The economic benefits of clean energy are here and now.
Calling all candidates! A record majority of Americans recognize our need to solve the climate crisis as it impacts their communities and loved ones. This is the greatest issue of our time and voters know it.
Last month, Australia passed a law to cut emissions 43% by 2030. Now, the Aussie state with one of the most carbon intensive energy supplies in the world has made a plan to completely move away from coal. We need to see action like this around the world!
The oil industry is kicking off 2024 by spending millions to undermine global progress on the climate crisis. Far from being "part of the solution" as they claimed at COP28, they are aggressively working to prevent any transition away from fossil fuels.
The opportunity to change course is one of the greatest gifts of our democracy. While it is never a guarantee, I believe that

Japan – the world’s 3rd largest economy – has committed to carbon neutrality by 2050. I applaud PM Yoshihide Suga for his leadership, along with Minister Koizumi, in setting this target. Major countries can achieve ambitious climate goals by seizing clean solutions available now.
Building more fossil fuel pipelines is reckless and many proposed routes are racist. I stand with those opposing the Keystone, DAPL, MVP, Line 3, and Byhalia pipelines.
Former First Lady Barbara Bush was a pillar of strength for her family and was much admired in our country. Both the wife and the mother of a U.S. President, she will be remembered for her service, pragmatism, and strong, kind spirit.
