Remember swinging ash and finding a 6 grainer in the box.... Found one at Dick's Sporting Goods.... only us old dudes know how hard this bat is
#grooveit
My son is out of town so I wore all his gear.. leg guard, arm guard, oven mitt in back pocket along with his pink bat...
Got intentionally walked... so next at bat I pimped one 😂
So this is a .33 load... .65 release.... 1.81 pop
Now if you still think you throw 1.8s after seeing this ... you're either delusional or you're better then the best catcher/athlete in the Show
#SorryNotSorry
@GDBJr5
😂
Coaches: a passed ball is a ball that is catchable that deflects off or out of the glove where a runner advances... ITS NOT A BALL IN THE DIRT THAT GETS BY.... thats called a WILD PITCH and its all on your pitcher...
Showed the kids last night how I sat up and received back in the day... wow that was 19 years ago? Wide knees, posture, glove at bottom of zone, let the ball come to me and make it look like you could roll out of bed and do it without any extra effort
#glorydays
Hit with your eyes... and dance with the pitcher... load when he loads, step when he steps, land when he lands, continue the swing... see ball and be on time... not hard
This entire dig-me culture of I'm showing you up everything I do anything is impossible to get my head around... zero fear or responsibility for actions... they threw at next batter but missed... who allows kids to play like this? BE BETTER.. COACHES
Hard to believe I'm still doing this at age 51... but if I'm going to teach how to be calm and make receiving look easy then I have to be able to practice what I preach... legs are shot though 🤣
We used to all try to mimick Charlie O because of how easy receiving looked the way he did it.. there is no one with hands like this and it was 10x better if you got to see him live ... yeah he's the GOAT when it comes to receiving
Quick video of how I was able to get a strike called for me after the previous pitch was called a ball in the exact same spot... Every time I NEEDED a strike I used this approach and anyone that threw to me knew all they had to do was hit my glove and it was called a strike
So when people dig up my stats and say I hit .225 they need to also know I was a backup.. not by choice but those were my cards.. shuttle guy who could catch.
One time in 11y I was an everyday guy for 3 months - AA with the Yankees where I hit .336... tough to hit as backup
Found some old old game footage of when I played... this is from 2004 catching Zach Duke in AA... yep I was a student of Charlie OBrien for receiving... that's how we all set up back then, right

When the barrell is below the hands then you are at your weakest position.. they cant even stop a pinkie finger from pushing your bat back... wrists are bones.. watch the end and enjoy
@O3jfrye
So many good things going on here:
1. Showed target
2. Weight is centered in stance
3. Relaxed arm/glove hand pre pitch
4. Let the ball come to him -didnt grab
5. Glove wide open before impact
6. Thumb down on impact
7. "Move as fast as you can for 4 inches"
8. Smooth
This is why you don't angle your chest to the plate on a breaking ball.. when the ball hits the ground it goes straight back.. so if you angle you will deflect it and have to go get it... stay square to keep in front of you
So yes, many of you are taught the wrong way
🚨 Public service announcement...
Any ball that hits the dirt whether blockable or not is always a Wild Pitch.... they are not passed balls...
Tag a scorekeeper who doesn't know this 🤣
🚨 Finally!!! 🚨
Only took 3 years to take what he does in practice into a game... blocked 8 total... asked how he likes blocking now... said it was easy... proud dad moment
I know coaches don't go full uniform anymore.. some where pullovers or sweatshirts or hooded shirts..... but a t shirt untucked? Am I the only one that thinks this is a sloppy look?
@shegone03
@WesClements22
If you hit a bomb and make a big production of it (giant bat flip, screaming, pointing) .... then your showing everyone you are a "ME" guy... ME guys don't tend to go very far... be a team guy who respects the game and his opponents all the time
For all the catchers that get sucked into the you have to throw harder come train with us 💩... last years top thrower gunned down 48% of his runners (insane) .... he was 4th in avg release time (0.61) and ranked 30th in arm strength w/his avg arm strength was under 80mph
Most of the idiots on this app can't see anything wrong... they have zero history on what the Yankees represent regarding tradition... clean shaven, pants blouse (minors) and no one acting above the org.. Gen-Me is pathetic...
🚨 PSA: hs catchers 🚨
Stop putting your showcase pop times in your bio... your not a 1.90, 1.80 or 1.75... if you are doing that in a game then you would be already committed & scouts would be coming in to 👀 you... only 1 kid here that is and he's way too humble to post that
I haven't seen any college

with an arm (74mph) and release (0.60) like
@EllaWesolowski
... and she's only a sophomore coaches.. [watch below]
Notice how easy this looks... understand the shape of the pitch and where it will end up... get there first and just catch the ball... not rocket science
Catchers... dont ever let this shit happen... you stand just in front of home plate and tell him to watch what happens.... then the next guy up has the Bullseye🎯 ... thats how you handle it
this unbelievable bat flip from Astros prospect Luis Santana (acquired from the Mets in the JD Davis trade) already has nearly 500K views but it'd be well over a million if it was shot in landscape
Things that look tired on the field..
1. Strutting to 1b after a walk
2. Taking 0-0 FB then stepping out and nodding your head like now your ready
3. Lobbing balls around the horn
4. Sliding glove (go feet 1st- prob solved)
5. Jogging to and from field
6. 3-0 hacks when 1-2
For me this is the easiest way to move laterally from 1 knee and cover a lot of space w minimal effort... hips have to be a little up and fwd.. cant be back or sitting on the ground... Fire away w comments or questions
Piazza was a big target... I liked the way he received the ball - always have... calm and let it come to you... I miss the East and west game vs up and down ... and Curt could paint with the best of them
Wonder if McNeil ever watched the game growing up when take out slides and collisions were part of the game... suck it up buttercup - it's baseball not soccer.... and thanks Manfred for ruining our national pastime
Interesting little study on how to always be quicker.. focused last night on the time from glove to front foot strike... regardless of how fast you load... 0.47 to land is getting you around 0.65... but our goal is 0.40 to get below 0.60... here are 4 throws showing it
only 15 guys averaging under 0.70 release...
* look at arm strength kids... you don't need a bazooka (Realmuto is a cyborg)... take him out and its 75 mph to 81 mph
* in other words, the radar guns put on you at showcases are irrelevant
Here is what I put together... borrowed from many... did it for Cam and CJ, my 13u catchers who root for each other but compete... can literally keep score rest of summer... made the template with the Game 4

There is nothing better then coaching kids to play baseball...nothing beats watching them work over the years to develop.. win or lose I just love the game and the kids that play it... especially lucky to have a loving wife who lets me be away to do it
Woke up to horrible news as one of my former players was involved in a horrible wreck yesterday and is fighting for his life... Ty Beeman is a 2024 multi sport athlete from Waverly, NY...
PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM
there is a go fund me set up
If you go out to catch the ball instead of staying deep and transferring.... you will lose about 0.12 - 0.15 ... wonder why your a 2.2? Starts with your transfer
When coaches do this to 12 year olds...
Not only should he be banned from ever coaching again but all the girls on his team should leave him... why would you want to be associated with a coach like this... society is broke
Combining 90s and early 2000s style with today... my hands were always good enough to get plenty of pitches under the zone... game was played more on corners then... move it when needed (shadow zone) but if it's a strike then just receive it
Kids yesterday said can you please tell my coach if I try to block it then it's not a passed ball it's a wild pitch... and if runner advances on a WP it doesn't count against us as a stolen base
Kids:
There is no right/wrong way to do things at our position as no 2 catchers are the same..different athletes come in different sizes.. just bcuz someone doesn't like the way you do it doesn't mean it won't work 4u.. work at YOUR craft not someone elses
#NationalCatchersDay
PSA:
Wild Pitches are a pitchers stat... not a catchers stat. If ball hits glove in the air and gets by then and only then its a passed ball.. anything in the dirt or in a location where the catcher has to dive or jump.... is on the pjtcher
CJ has his new gear laying on his bed.. I think the term is lit? or drip? I don't know, but its freaking cool as hell...
@dirtbag_swag
@ALLSTARSPORTS
continues to lead the pack ... thanks guys
Nothing better then the college boys returning on break to get in some work... Had Dalt in for about 4 hours this weekend and here is a condensed version of our progressions (minus me talking)... smooth and early
Just finished my last quiz of my college career just now.. so what I should have done many years ago I did tonight.. complete my college education
#whew

Catchers:
When you try to throw hard you lose time on getting grounded as well as on your release.. throwing 80+ is great to 2b as long as your happy being over 2.00 (in game).. throw fast vs throw hard.. more distance = lost time... focus on how quick u can pull the seams
Another D1 commit today... thats our 3rd one at
@Iroquoisbasebll
and the most important stat is knowing that every senior (5) is moving on to play baseball at the next level... last years starting 9 all move on to college ball.. good work boys
Started this journey back in fall of 1995.. 27 years later I finally got my degree.. i guess now I would be able to coach in college since this paper is more of a requirement then actual experience... feels good though to be considered smart!
