It is with a heavy heart we announce the DNF of Eric Harris and his 8 loop attempt. During loop 6, a stress injury caused a leg to seize and he lost mobility—168 miles with 48,000 feet elevation gain, over intense terrain can do that to a body. Great effort, Harris! Bravo!
Race leader, Nich Mamrak just finished loop 5! Jason Brady is taking a short nap prior to tackling loop 5. Peter Morgan just came thru mile 16 on loop 4, in great spirits. The nights are long, dark, & extremely lonely. I think our runners will welcome some company tomorrow.
Just received an unexpected gift of firewood from Mr. Dobbs, a local who's son & grandson are running with us on Saturday. This community is the best!!!!
All runners still working Loop 2. Saw Todd come thru the road crossing at 8:00 pm. He has a commanding lead. Saw Travis come into Camp Todd at 8:30 pm. Eric & Jason are working their way up & over Big Bald Mtn. Race Mgmt is getting a few winks of sleep.
43 hours remain on the clock, and all 3 runners are now on Loop 6. Running order: Thomas, Brady, Harris. These runners have 140 miles on their legs with approx 84 more to go!! Let's cheer them on!!!!!
Peter Morgan is preparing for loop 2. Temps will be dropping from here on thru the night. Peter has a vast amount of experience, and is a master at preparing for what lies ahead.
It is a dark, moonless night. The runners are all on loop 2 in 3 packs. Nich Mamrak is out front, solo. Kevin, Jason Brady, and Jared are running together; Jason Hallenbeck & Peter are running together.
With heavy hearts, we accept Travis' surrender. Prior to this year, no one had completed more than 2 full loops in the quest for 8. Travis got 3 full loops in today. A valiant effort, brother. WE SALUTE YOU!!!! Rest well & recover quickly.
It was ‘Game-Faces-ON’ this morning for Eric Harris, prior 8 loop (and multiple 4 loop) TWOT finisher, and John Fegyveresi, prior 4 loop TWOT finisher, prior Barkley finisher, and thru hiker. Only two runners dared to brave 8 loops this year. TWOT is not for the faint of spirit.
Just saw Peter pass thru Camp Todd on Loop 3, just as the hard rain was setting in. He looks great, is in high spirits, and said "at least it's not cold out".
Absolutely perfect day here!!!! 6 runners are reporting tomorrow morning to run 4 loops....follow that exciting action starting at 8 am over at
@TWOT100
Todd just executed his fastest turn-around yet, and is now underway on Loop 4!!!!! All other runners are working Loop 3. Temps are on the rise, but it is a gorgeous day out!
Loop 2 was decisive. John has decided to not continue, and is safe & sound off the trail. We salute our dear friend for traveling here to make an attempt at TWOT200!!! Eric Harris continues on, and just finished Loop 2 at 1:25 am!
Eric Harris pictured here as he heads out to embrace Hankee Mountain and moves to complete his fourth loop. With the completion of this loop, Eric’s warm-up is officially over. As he passed FR 96, Eric said, “now it’s starting to get ‘fun’.”
Todd Thomas refueling after 5 loops, prepping for his 6th loop. He has had about 3 hours of sleep total since start. The gains are starting to add up and the descents are taking their toll, as one would expect.
Peter made the tough decision to drop on Loop 4. No 200+ finishers this time. The CLASSIC Cold TWOT 100+ starts at 8 am tomorrow....follow the action over
@TWOT100
TWOT 200+ is underway!!!! Reports will come very slowly at this stage of the game, due to the expansiveness of the course, and lack of cell service. Stay tuned!
Under a bright half-moon, Todd Thomas completes Loop 4, and is looking strong!!!! 🌛 How far back are Brady & Harris??? Updates will be coming as we get them, round the clock, nonstop action
@TWOT200
!!!!!
Today is the day! Everyone cheering for the 200 milers, please note they have very limited cell phone access due to the extreme isolation of the course. They may be able to receive messages at their resting points, though, if you do send messages, expect major response delays!!
Nicholas Mamrak finishes loop 1 (28 miles) in 6 hours 18 minutes. He holds a commanding lead over the field. He did a quick replenishment, then headed right back out on loop 2.
Eric Eldridge has made the tough decision to not continue past 2 loops, due to foot issues. We wish Eric a speedy recovery, and welcome him back anytime!
Eric came through Camp Todd this morning at 0420. He spent a few mimutes rest there, before continuing on. He is feeling the effects of sleep deprivation, but moving well, and looking forward to daybreak.
Just had 4 runners in the lot at one time, until Eric Harris headed out. Eldridge, Morgan, & Taylor are eating, drinking, and suiting up for a nighttime loop of 28 miles and 8,000 feet of climb. Warriors!!!!
Update! All 3 runners are through the road crossing (mile 16) on Loop 6! Todd came thru at 5:45 pm, Jason at 8:09 pm, Eric at 9:09 pm. SOLID performances by these three savages!!!!
Quick shout out to our race founder, Dennis Herr. If you are following along, Dennis, everyone here sends warm greetings, and we hope to see you soon! You'd be proud of the job these 8-loop runners are doing!!!! Amazing efforts thus far!
