LCBOs have laser sharp focused surveillance though. They just send it to the police. I have had clients get caught after the fact because police ID them on surveillance and then simply figure out how to arrest them for it later and the surveillance is used as evidence

I got an acquittal for my client w/o a criminal record on firearm charges today. He spent a few days in custody before a "special bail" was held. He has been on bail for over 18 months w/o incident. Kneejerk reactors would have my client stay in jail. Reasonable bail is our right

So I could be a tourist minding my own business and the police could arrest me, suspecting I am an undocumented immigrant? I feel like Canada should have a travel advisory for their citizens about travelling to these states because this is insane.
Georgia just passed a law allowing the police to arrest anyone they even suspect of being an undocumented immigrant. Texas recently passed a similar law. These very obviously unconstitutional laws will have catastrophic effects on both immigrants and American citizens.

People do not understand how common this is. Family members call the police, thinking the cops will bring them to get help. The police will just arrest if they disover a crime they can arrest for and family members end up shocked.

If a JP is assigned to bail court, then they should be prepared to sit until 4:30pm for a special bail. Not end court at 4pm in the MIDDLE of submissions when the time is available to complete the matter. The way the right to bail is treated in courts is an abomination.

This is shameful behaviour by the police. Shameful. To think, I was just in my office in Liberty Village, literally less than a 5 minute walk away and this happened. The city should be ashamed of themselves, but they won't be.
VIOLENT CONTENT. Clashes broke out at Lamport Stadium as City of Toronto staff cleared out a homeless camp. A mini-riot between activists and Toronto Police happened out on King St. when officials tried to move out a shelter box right through the dense crowd.

This. I remember being yelled at by a judge for something. Then an old white lawyer came in and had the same issue and it was smiles and "no problem, mr. X". I wasn't surprised, just appalled she didn't care how obvious that would be to me.
Judges need to stop shouting at counsel. We don’t go to work to be shouted at. No one should.
What’s even more frustrating is when you notice judges who are keen to shout at young females but not older males.
It’s workplace bullying.

Criminal defence work has good days and bad days. Today was a bad day, but brightened by a client sending a very large thank you basket of goodies (including vodka, my fav) for varying his bail on an ankle monitor to be able to go outside and enjoy the sun. The small things ❤

This was calculated & on purpose. There's no ramifications for this kind of evil behaviour, so he unfortunately won't be the last one that police purposefully frame with the court's help. 17 years of this kid's life. Shame.
Sheldon Thomas spent 19 years in prison wrongfully convicted of murder after cops knowingly used a photo of a different Black man (with the same name) in a photo array and a witness identified him. His judge, then an appeal court, said it didn't matter because they looked alike.

What puzzles me is why the public and government thinks there's nothing wrong with paying criminal defence lawyers drastically less than prosecutors and police. It's disgraceful, actually.

Jails cannot continue to disrespect judge's orders and refuse to bring clients when ordered by the court. This disrespect for the court and disregard for our clients cannot continue. Someone needs to be brought to court and held in contempt at this point.
