Quick thread on Andoni Iraola for you Bournemouth and general Premier League fan. Will start with how he likes to set up his teams out of possession as that's his biggest upside as a manager. #afcb

Although the pass here looks easy, in real time it wasn't. If Llorente got this wrong then Leeds would have been in trouble. Roberts movement made it easier though. #LUFC

Was talk about Lewis O’Brien having a £10m release clause, if that’s the case, Leeds should be activating it. A player suited for our style, can play alongside Phillips as a 6. With us playing narrow, we need someone comfortable receiving in tight spaces and he fits the bill.

Carlos Corberán for me is the best coach in the championship in terms of tactical flexibility. Always got a plan for the opposition. Doing a wonderful job at West Brom but the one manager I think would take to life in a higher league the best.

Rayo was back yesterday and their hybrid pressing resulted in a goal. The press itself was player to player but the positioning of Palazon ready to cover two players meant when the ball was turned over, he was in prime position to attack the free space. Lovely stuff.

Baffling Why we keep playing players out of postion, then criticise them and can't understand why they don't perform. Rodrigo a striker we paid £30m for playing as AM and Dan James a winger playing up-front, make it make sense 🤯🤯🤯 #lufc @LUFC #ALAW

Rewatched Bournemouth against Villa and Iraola got his tactics spot despite the game ending 2-2. In typical fashion, he’s OOP approach was rewarding. Below are 3 pressing scenarios followed by a 4th which ended in their 2nd goal.

Okay I’m back briefly just to say and repeat what I’ve said before, for me the sign of a good coach is that no matter what team they put out, you see the same/similar things. Tonight we saw that with Boro (made a number of changes) and not with us.

Against pretty much any opposition who play a back four they line up in a 442. They press high on goal kicks, looking to force the opposition to play the pass to one of their CB's. This is the trigger for the below pressing sequence to happen.

Andoni Iraola still without a job, seems like the only job available in La Liga is Celta Vigo and of course Rayo. Seems like he made his decision in March with the Leeds job or Sevilla job looking nailed on for him. One of those is still available, albeit in a lower league👀

The AM will press the centre back receiving whilst the striker covers the pass back to the keeper. The man marking element comes with ball side winger marking the full back, one of the DM's marking the opposition pivot and the other DM pushing onto the ball side midfielder.

Why do I get the feeling we are only going to sign 4-5 players? Our squad is on the floor. Too many managers at Leeds get drawn into the players personality and it clouds their judgment on their ability as a footballer imo.
37

Bielsa leaving genuinely feels like splitting up with your partner. The man brought life back to Leeds as a club and as a city. We was a club playing each season for nothing, finishing mid table and losing our best players every year.
3

53
Most frustrating thing about Marsch is he’s had long spells where he could work with the players and seemly achieved nothing but let them have a long holiday. He’s had 4 weeks and the team have served up a terrible performance against Villa and Palace since it.
13
2
51
The hybrid pressing (as @Jon_Mackenzie would call it) comes in the form of ball far winger. He has the responsibility of marking the spare midfielder whilst also keeping an eye on the full back. Iraola is happy to give the disadvantage up horizontally rather than vertically.

Watched a seminar he did and found it very interesting. Even small details like coaching his players to be aware of teammates positioning before pressing. What space I’m I leaving if I go to press and if it’s dangerous, is a teammate in a position to fill it.

You can’t really replace Rutter but I do think Ramazani is a someone who’s pretty close. Can play across the front line, picks up great positions in between the lines and has that unpredictable nature about him.

Worth remembering that he’s without a lot of his coaching team he had at Rayo in Bournemouth. So not only is it a new league/country, new players but also getting new coaches up to speed with how he wants to play.

In possession their 442 is more of a 433. Iraola to date hasn't really been a possession based coach or one that focuses on building out from the back. If they aren't pressed, they will build up via their full backs. They are a side who play long a lot, especially their CB's.
