Have you noticed that the phrase “human trafficking” continues to be conflated with sex trafficking with little to no mention of labor trafficking? I visit some “anti-trafficking” websites and there’s no mention of the exploitation of migrant workers, etc.

If no one else has started one, can we start a thread of sex workers with children who need help during the holidays? It’s been a tough year for all, but especially for the kids who shouldn’t have to pay the price for the politics of adults (though they often do)

TW: Abortion My thoughts on sex work are from the same place as my thoughts on abortion: bodily autonomy and harm reduction. Abolishing abortion does not make abortion disappear & neither does abolishing sex work. It just makes both more dangerous and stigmatizing

Some radfems and conservatives blame sex workers for men dehumanizing women but dehumanizing the “other” happens all the time. Hell, people treat “regular” service workers like shit just because they think they have a right to do so (ask any server or checkout worker)

I’d like you all to reflect on the numbers from @YouGov today that say that a majority of people support sex workers rights but most people don’t want us as friends or lovers. (Even after we have retired). The stigma and isolation kills us.

I’ve said it before but so many of the calls we get on the Sex Worker Community Support Line are from people who feel alone, isolated, unloved and/or abused by a partner. And that was before the pandemic which just exacerbated those things

Every so often I get asked if a sex worker can call the Sex Worker Community Support Line even if it’s not about something serious like DV/SA - the answer is “Of course!” The SWCSL is here for sex workers for support with issues big and not-so-big. It’s open 24/7 at 877-776-2004

It’s why we tell friends and family to a) keep lines of communication open, b) do not talk shit about the abuser but discuss their actions and c) remember that it usually takes a number of times before someone permanently leaves an abuser

I think more people subscribe to the idea of the “perfect victim” than they realize. The reality is that many victims fawn, are often devoted to their abuser and can lash out/parrot the statements of the person harming them and shaping their reality

Want to “abolish” sex work? Give people access to safe housing, food, and healthcare. It won’t stop all sex work but it will do a hell of a lot more than any laws criminalizing it

Threatening to doxx a sex worker? Misgendering someone when their pronouns are in their bio? Saying that you don’t care and then DM’ing a sex worker threats? Stay classy, Troy - welcome to the land of toxic masculinity

Huge thanks to all the sex workers who recommend the SWOP community support line! This free resource is available for sex workers who are in need or just need to talk. The staff & volunteers are confidential & non-judgmental. We’ll be putting out a call for Fall volunteers soon!

A note that the SWOP Community Support Line (run by @swopbehindbars ) is open 24/7 where you can get confidential and anonymous support. There is nothing too small/big to call about and you’re not tying up e lines. This service is for SWers of all kinds -877-776-2004 - no clients!

I am an ally of sex workers. I don’t think anyone is above reproach or critique but I will report anyone who threatens to doxx or harm a sex worker. There is a lot of back and forth on Twitter but endangering someone’s life is not the response to someone on the Internet

The shame of miscarriage/stillbirth is not that it happens but that no one talks about it even though it is a fairly common experience. If you do want to assist someone who has gone through this, here are some tips:

We’ve had many calls to the Sex Worker Community Support Line about this exact thing. The guys were okay with the sex work when they were receiving the benefits but as soon as there was a divorce/breakup, they became the innocent father and the sex worker the harlot

I’m genuinely starting to believe that were I to one day have children, an ex partner I haven’t spoken to in years would call CPS on me and I hate that this has been a legitimate concern for a number of sex workers I have known

Yes, but we don’t live in this society yet. Theory and discussion is great, but it always pales in comparison to actively helping the disadvantaged. Praxis outweighs theory and the praxis of advocating for sex worker rights is what is needed now @zukosmadre
