Southern Madagascar is in the grips of the most intense drought for four decades. Water prices have surged 300% and locals all speak of the kéré, or hunger, as crops they rely on wither in the dry, dusty soil. Here's my attempt to understand the crisis 🇲🇬

Really important to stress that BOTH versions have been approved by the WHO & MHRA - Covishield isn’t approved in the EU because the Serum Institute didn’t apply for approval there; Europe isn’t its target market. There is absolutely no suggestion that the latter is substandard

So 2020 got off to a bang: Brexit happened (kinda), a deadly new coronavirus infected some 11,000 people, Iran & the US almost went to war, Australia’s bush fires were deadly & destructive, Trump’s impeachment faltered, huge locust plagues hit E. Africa.. HOW is it only just Feb?

@Laurie_Garrett @AstraZeneca @US_FDA Laurie this is misleading: there's currently no evidence to suggest the number of blood clots in the vaccinated population is higher than the unvaccinated . Millions & millions have had the jab safely, as my colleague outlines. Risk of Covid is far greater

"There is a big diff bw the lethality of a virus, how many people on average a virus kills, v the mortality," says @DrMikeRyan . "If I have 1m people infected & my lethality is 1%, or 2m people infected with a lethality of 1%, twice as many people will die [in 2nd case]"
