Nathaniel and I built a spreadsheet to make it easier for founders to size their market. Nothing fancy (just organized NAICS stuff) but it's a faster and more principled approach to sizing a market than what we were doing previously. LMK if you want a copy.

I saw a help wanted sign at a hardware store and couldn’t think of 3 people in NYC who’d want the job (have connections back home that would but not in NYC). That seems bad. Thinking about cross-socioeconomic friendships as an indicator for a robust society. Any data on this?

I remember being a kid in Kansas watching Elf and being positive baffled that Zoey Deschanel had to shower at work cause the water in her building didn’t work and now I live in NYC and I have to shower at Crunch on Bowery like at least 2x/week.

One time as a kid I was on a flight and there was bad turbulence so I asked my mom (who is a pilot) if everything was okay and instead of explaining it she said “if it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go” and honestly that was a great parenting move.

Things I learned from talking to these 5 researchers (TY to volunteers!):
1/5 Research teams still struggle with version control. Not many use Git because their collaborators are slow to adopt. Still too technical for most. On many teams, there is no single point of truth.
I want to speak with 5 quantitative researchers over the next 5 days (can be life or social science). Convo will be less than 30 minutes, focused on your data management workflow. DM if interested!

Optimists should talk more about the healing of the ozone hole. This was news that felt more like an aside to me. It shows scary issues can be solved in a fairly short amount of time with coordination. Apparently, policy works and not all hope is lost.
