I watched my Dad get nursed by staff at the Royal Marsden. An NHS ward where he was treated with respect and dignity at all times. I am so thankful for that. But why is mental health care so different? Why should we fear for our life being amitted to a psychiatric ward?

What started as a small tweet about the ridiculous blanket bans the ward had in place, morphed into something huge. A mixed sex ward is NEVER a place for anyone. I don’t care if it ‘helps calm the men’ or ‘some people prefer it’. It’s 2019 and nobody should be forced into that.

I have just spent a week on a mixed ward. I have PTSD from a past SA on a ward and also have ASD. Due to the way the ward was laid out, I could not get meds, get food, have visitors, speak to staff, leave the ward, see a Dr, get a drink without having to walk through mixed area

Living with trauma is being hyper vigilant every second of every day. It is exhausting and never seems to end. And the people one would expect to turn to when mentally unwell are the people who caused this trauma to begin with. So where do you turn?

It is extremely hard to get a conviction for an assault as a mental health patient. We are not believed because of our mental illness. Why is it so different for physical health. Why is the treatment punitive in mental health settings?

You are scared out of your mind to tell someone on a locked ward that something has happened to you. You have no way to escape and the person could come back and do worse. You are disbelieved and ignored and you then question yourself.

How are psychiatrists allowed to get away with blaming the patient? Are medical patients yelled at daily for being physically unwell? Would someone be kept in a medical facility for 8 weeks, begging for a medication change, be ignored and then discharged and blamed for no change?

I was moved from one ward to another. Was treated like a criminal. Threatened with my belongings being taken away and called an attention seeker. Days after the assault.

This is one really amazing response I complained about the fact that they were selling cages not even big enough for a guinea pig for rabbits. These are now off sale. Thank you!

@DrRaviJ @DHSCgovuk @NHSEngland Thank you for continuing to fight this. Whistleblowing is the most exhausting thing. The NHS is so beyond repair right now and cover up culture is at the bottom of this. It feels like we are at a point where poor care is expected and anything better is a gift!

I was supported by outside agencies including the police and eventually the lovely solicitors from @LeighDay_Law At no point have I received support from the health services that caused the SA. 26 charges out of 1,374 and even within those charges, help is not given

Revealed: Scandal of 1,374 hospital sex attacks – and just 26 charges. @catrubens calls for a mandatory regulatory scheme for healthcare workers, as is the case for doctors and nurses.

I will never forgive the abuser. I wil also never forgive the staff on the wards that 1. Allowed it to happen and 2. Who treated me like I was a piece of dirt afterwards.

@PsycheScribe87 I would have to make a complaint to the service and any complaints I have been made have been shoved under the carpet and affected my 'care'
