Former teacher; forever public education supporter. New Orleans girl living in Florida. And most importantly: wife to
@Coach_Couch56
and mom to Tillman Wyatt.
I miss teaching but not as much as I love being consistently less stressed out and anxious. I miss my students but not as much as I value prioritizing my mental and physical health. And I’m not sorry about it.
@frynaomifry
When I was a babysitter I used to LOVE when the parents (especially the mom) came home drunk. They were always so much fun. Offering life advice and complements or deep meaningful convos. Sometimes sending me home with food. Ah, I can’t wait to be that mom one day!
Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. This man works SO hard and is beyond humble, always. I might be a *little* biased, but I believe he’s absolutely the best Special Teams coach out there. 🐊💙🧡🏈 Go Gators!
@Coach_Couch56
Some notes on my first game at “The Swamp”: a lot of gator fans show up, like A LOT a lot, traditions and cheers are so upbeat and fun, Tom Petty “Won’t Back Down” in the third quarter gave me goosebumps and almost brought me to tears! Overall, just so insanely magical. 🧡💙
First August 1st I’m not stressed about back to school and the first year I don’t miss the back to school craziness. If I’ve learned anything it’s that protecting my peace is the most important. 😌
Just got a pedicure & a student who graduated 2 years ago came in. I asked how she & her 4 year old were doing & with a big smile said she just finished beauty school & needs a job/clients.
I said “Let’s make me first & I’ll spread it everywhere”! Lil help my friends?

@NicholasFerroni
I surprised mine by writing on each of my students desks (with expo marker) a positive personalized note. They walked in on the last day to them! So sweet to see their faces light up as they read them.
Proud of this guy and his team. 🤟🏻🏈 Our first move together and it’s been nothing short of amazing at UL. 13 straight wins, Sun Belt champs, nationally ranked, NOLA Bowl winners. What a wild, amazing ride! ❤️

It took a long time to get here. I still feel a little pang of teacher guilt every now and then. But putting my needs and health before the career that was destroying me was what had to happen. I mostly miss what teaching *used* to be, not the shit show it’s been lately.
I’m in tears. My latest
@DonorsChoose
project got funded and in addition to that I got two gift cards for my next project from two family friends. Today I truly believe in the good of the world. I can’t wait to pay it back to someone else! ❤️

Y’all it is really that simple. I keep an entire supply of pencils and have them out all day, everyday. Erasers, too. Yes, I buy them. Yes, it’s another added expense. But they need it and I’m not going to reprimand them for not having one. Just give the kid a pencil.
@JustinAion
@OrangeJewelya
Man I couldn’t hit the retweet button fast enough on this. It’s also the “make sure to self care” coming from admin as the simultaneously give us more responsibilities and useless paperwork, for me.
@NicholasFerroni
I had recently gotten engaged, a few weeks after being hired. One student (4th grade) said “What’s his name?”. I replied “Christopher”, she says, “Oh, Columbus?” with an absolute straight face, 100% serious. At least she paid attention in Social Studies? 🤔
Just a few of my favorite pictures from a beyond amazing football season. Football is so much more than a few months of games and what you may see on TV. It’s truly a crazy wild, ride that can be tiring and exhausting, but also so rewarding. ❤️ If you know, you know.
Parents are SO mad that teachers are quitting and there’s about to be a massive teacher shortage. Lmao. Weren’t y’all threatening to homeschool your kids recently because of how “unqualified” and “awful” you said teachers were?! Now is your chance to shine!
The Katie Sowers commercial for Surface Pro makes me tear up every single time. We need more women in sports. We need more women to set an example. We need more women to be role models, period. You amaze me,
@KatieSowers
! 💖
Back to back CHAMPS. First time in Tulane history. I got to watch history be made this weekend and it was nothing short of perfection. I’m just so proud of
@Coach_Couch56
and his players. KPS had a phenomenal game and an amazing season overall, to say in the least. 💙💚

Actively listening and then asking “what do YOU think we can do to change/fix/help this”. Also, no random 5 min walk throughs; instead, actually sit for a while, interact with the kids, and learn about what we are doing. Lastly, actually stand up for us against unruly parents!
@apiscaerulea
@NicholasFerroni
I also gave them some cute pencils! 🤗 Ummm, it took about 30-40 minutes I think. I just came early that morning. Worth it! I have 32 students in each section.

@MsJachymiak
1. Everyone’s first year is rough. Also yes, it’s really hard. Like really hard. 2. You can have not great test scores/observations and still be a great teacher. 3. It’s okay to laugh and have fun with the kids. The curriculum can wait sometimes. 💗
THIS. This is what good faith and amazing people look like. 😭 The
#ClearTheLists
project has assured me that there are still good people in the world who truly care about teachers and what we do!
#SoThankful
SURPRISE! ✨After repeatedly telling myself I didn’t want to go back to the classroom, I finally stopped lying to myself. And I’m back! This time in special education! 👩🏻🏫
New position, new school, new town (in the middle of no where 😅), and whole new district. New EVERYTHING!
@mastrand4
You don’t deserve an explanation but: the MAIN reason (*not the only) I quit was because I was physically abused by a student every single day. So, maybe you’d be willing to put up with this kind of abuse and shaming a suffering educator on the internet, but I would never.
Hi all! 🤗 I made this Twitter in the hopes of connecting and building relationships with fellow teachers, education supporters, parents, and friends! 📚✏️🌍 Thank you for following along on my journey. 💖
@FletcherWDSU
Imagine if you put as much effort into SUPPORTING local, deserving teams as you did bashing them. Yikes. You’re an embarrassing New Orleans resident.
When I get donations, and especially when I get funded, I spend hours writing thank you notes. I know
@DonorsChoose
has a box that donors can check to receive student thank you notes, but as the teacher I always try to write ones too! 💌

If you see me in traffic in New Orleans dressed as King George, mind your business. I work at an elementary school and we are learning about the American Revolution. Okay? 🤷🏻♀️😬
@mastrand4
Also, don’t you dare try to guilt trip me. Maybe I quit my job, but I would NEVER shame my fellow educators. And just because I left this year, doesn’t mean I’ll never be back nor will I completely leave the education field.
Just had to google my own husband to find out his official football coaching title when I was answering some financial questions about grad school. If that’s not the coolest thing ever, I don’t know what is! 🥺😭 I am totally one proud wifey

@teachrealdata
Because not everyone will recognize the strength this took and know what it feels like: Congratulations! It’s not easy but you’ve done it. I’m proud of you.
Don’t tell me kids aren’t empathetic! I told my students today I would have a sub the next few days, as my grandmother had passed away this weekend. I have yet to receive more heartfelt and sincere condolences from adults as I did today from my sweet 4th graders. I love them ❤️
I have a fun “Boot Camp” activity planned for my students tomorrow. Something I came up with today and have never done before! The goal is to review class rules, expectations, and procedures during an army themed obstacle course activity! 💚 These are “dog tag” stickers I made!
Shoutout to the girl I went to high school with who isn’t a teacher but is “homeschooling” her child. And yes she’s just having her child trace worksheets with a marker everyday. Yeah…you are not qualified and you are not teaching. Yikes, girl!
Today King George III made a guest appearance in my classes. The 4th grade subjects were most accommodating and welcoming, but I think I’ll still have to tax them unfairly!
#AllHailtheKing
😅👑 I love teaching about the American Revolution!
In first grade, I kicked a girl because she made fun of me for bringing my grandpa to Father’s Day Mass (Catholic school probs) and I still have zero regrets about it. Anyway, happy Father’s Day to all the father figures who aren’t exactly “dads” but mean the most. ❤️
When a friend tells me they are going into education I try to be as supportive as possible. Realistic, yet supportive. But truthfully, people who are passionate about helping children will go into this profession if it’s challenging or not. And those are the teachers we need. 🙌
Today my principal walked in during the absolute peak of craziness. I immediately started panicking. But, she was excited and complimented me on such a cool hands on activity. New moto: Don’t be afraid of thinking outside of the box 🙌👏😜.
New. Favorite. Activity. Ever! Founding Fathers Gallery Walk! My kiddos learned about the start of our Democracy and the men who made it happen while walking around the room and working in groups! THEN, cast ballots for who they would vote for and why!

#socialstudieswin
The best part of the Taylor Swift drama is that literally NO ONE is defending Jake Gyllenhaal. Not a damn soul. And y’all better keep this same energy when it comes to John Mayer.
Today my virtual students filled up a row on their “reward chart”. I asked them what reward they wanted (wear a silly hat during our video call, dance party, etc.). They chose to have lunch with me virtually instead. 🥺 I can’t wait to get to know these sweet babies!
@mrdearybury
I like that someone already said improvise! That’s a great one I’ve had to learn. Especially in my 1st year teaching. Something always goes wrong (technology not working, shortened schedule, fire drill, etc. ). Nothing ever goes as planned! 🙄
It’s hard to give “gifts” during the holidays when you teach in the upper grades and have 95-100 (😅) students. But, a pencil and a sweet note go a long way. Wouldn’t you want to know that your teacher loves you?! This was my
#ValentinesDayGift
for all of my 4th graders.
Me to my husband, who is a football coach: “If I were a player, what position would I be?”
Husband: “Left out”
Me: “Wait, what is that?”
Husband: “Sus, just say it out loud…….”
Me: “….Oh, wait that’s mean!”
😔☹️😒
@Coach_Couch56
I can’t believe I made this little tiny human?! I MADE him and now we just get to hang out everyday and he smiled at me like this 🥹. 10/10 would recommend
@AwayCallaway
I genuinely and sincerely hope you’re not saying what I think you are. Who wishes that on someone and their family? Please, seek mental and emotional help.
My husband is a morning person. I am NOT. Never have been, probably never will be. Almost every day, he wakes up first, very quietly, walks the dog, and then makes or gets me coffee. Allowing me to sleep as late as I want. This alone is enough of a reason to love him forever. ❤️
Can’t believe I’m starting a brand new year with a brand new name! 😳💍👏 Can’t wait to hear “Mrs. Couch” a million times a day instead of “Ms. Lawrence” 😂🤪

@smfs214
Yup, I get it. In 2020 during the height of the pandemic I had to start therapy again with an anti depressant. It’s helped and I’m beyond thankful for it, but it shouldn’t have gotten that far due to my career and it’s constant issues.
Trying something new this year...for every disappointing or “bad” phone call home, I’m also going to make a positive phone call home! It’s all about balance, right? 💖
I feel so anxious whenever anyone tries to make plans on a Sunday. Like, hello? I’m trying to get my entire life together, do laundry, and plan for the next 5 days of teaching. I CANNOT hang out.
@mspearsonin3rd
Pick your battles wisely. It’s okay to let some things go, even if it’s hard. I also always give myself three deep breaths or at least count to three before reacting when upset. And that’s also something I tried to instill with my students.
@stephreece12
I quit in January. Luckily, my husband got a better job a few days later so I’ve been able to take some time off. I honestly don’t know what I plan to do next. I’m in grad school for curriculum and instruction and graduate next summer. Kinda just figuring it out as I go. 🤷🏻♀️🥴
I’m a little late to the
#clearthelists
movement but it is still so meaningful and powerful to me. Teachers are such incredibly dedicated professionals, who spend their own money on basic supplies and materials. But when a movement like this exists it is THE BEST.

Almost a month ago (the day after school ended) I got married! Being a first year teacher and planning a wedding was the most stressful experience of my life. But I did it! And I got to have special moments like this.❤️ I wish I could relive this perfect day every single day!
