It's 23 years since I was appointed manager of
@CelticFC
. It was the beginning of 5 phenomenal years at Celtic Park and I loved every second. I always enjoy returning and it was a great honour to be involved in celebrating the current team's success last weekend.
#HailHail
@chris_sutton73
Because he scored more goals than you! However, had you not come to
@CelticFC
when you did we may not have beaten Rangers that glorious afternoon. You were a landscape-changer when you came to the club & had you not done so, we wouldn't have achieved the success we did.
Really devastated to hear the tragic news that Trevor Francis has passed away. A phenomenal player, superb teammate and a great friend. Football has lost a true great of the game.
Hello

It is a big night tonight for my friend

I asked him about this in the latest episode of The Football Authorities podcast.

I was saddened to hear the news of the passing of Gary Shaw.
He was a wonderful footballer and an esteemed member of that brilliant Aston Villa team which won the 1982 European Cup.
He will be missed but not forgotten.
Condolences to his family and close friends.
#OTD
in 2006 I was proud to be appointed Aston Villa manager. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there with 3 consecutive top 6 finishes & some memorable cup runs. We came so close to winning silverware & breaking into the top 4, it wasn't to be. Perhaps it could happen this season?
I am saddened by the passing of Sven-Göran Eriksson.
I did not know him all that well, but on the couple of occasions that our paths crossed he was extremely courteous and rather genteel, with a real sense of humour.
My sincere condolences to Sven’s family and friends.
Very sad to hear that Craig Brown has passed away. I saw him at a function in Scotland recently and he was wonderful company. Football has lost a great man today. My thoughts are with his family.
Happy retirement to one of the greatest goalkeepers that has ever lived,
@gianluigibuffon
. This photo was taken just after the Republic of Ireland match against Italy at the 2016 European Championships in France – great sportsmanship from a great player.
Very sad to hear the news of Pele's death.
To win three World Cups is extraordinary. As a 6-year-old, I remember watching him in 1958 but it was in 1970 when he reigned supreme for Brazil.
Whenever people talk about the best of all time, Pele will always be in the conversation.
Very sad to hear about the death of my childhood footballing hero, Charlie Hurley. He was a phenomenal player for Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland, so much so that he was voted 'Player Of The Century' for the Black Cats. A fitting accolade for a truly great player.
I've had lots of questions posted on here since I joined Twitter, so I've decided I will be online tomorrow (Wednesday 7th) from 3pm-4pm to do a virtual Q & A session. Make sure you have your questions lined up and I will answer as many of them as I can in that hour!
It is another Wembley anniversary for me today. In 2010, my Aston Villa side lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the League Cup Final and it's a result that hurts just as much now as it did at the time.
#AVFC
Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!🍀This photo was taken on this day in 1980 when Nottingham Forest were en route to play Dynamo Berlin in the 1/4 final of the European Cup. Despite being 1-0 down after the 1st leg, we turned the tie around around to win 3-1. Great days! 🏆
#NFFC
What a memorable evening that was at Celtic Park last night! Thank you to all who came along to hear me chat about my time managing
@CelticFC
, have copies of my book signed & support

in the process. I felt humbled to receive such a warm welcome back in Glasgow.🍀

On this day in 1995, I was proud to be appointed manager of
@LCFC

After a very tricky start, we managed to turn the club's fortunes around & secured promotion to the

I have wonderful memories from my time at

Very sad to hear that Joe Kinnear has passed away. He was a good friend first and foremost, an excellent right back for Tottenham Hotspur and the Republic of Ireland in his playing days and always a tough opponent as a manager. It is another very sad loss for football.
#OTD
in 2001,
@CelticFC
defeated Hibernian 3-0 in the Scottish FA Cup final to complete an historic treble. It was an incredible end to my first season in charge and I hope the current team can complete their own treble on June 3rd.
#HailHail
A born winner for club and country, few trophy cabinets could match Franz Beckenbauer's. To captain your country to World Cup glory is one thing, but to then go on to achieve that accolade as the manager is a mark of true greatness. The game has lost another iconic figure.
Sir Bobby Charlton was undoubtedly one of the greatest footballers of all time. A World Cup and Ballon d'Or winner, a European Champion and a Manchester United legend and I was lucky enough to play against him early in my career. Football has lost another titan of the game.
Ahead of today's Old Firm, this fixture always brings back memories of my first derby day and a remarkable 6-2 victory for
@CelticFC
in 2000. The more I think about that day, the more I regard that match as a seminal moment. Really looking forward to the game, Hail Hail! 🍀
I was saddened to hear Terry Venables, a true footballing great, has passed away. An accomplished player & brilliant manager, occasional lunches with him were always fun & enlightening. His death is a big loss to the sport & he will be sorely missed by ex-players & media alike.

Attended Mr Elsom's funeral yesterday to pay my respects to a wonderful man and an excellent chairman of
@LCFC
. During my time as manager at Filbert Street, I shared many great experiences with John, he will be sadly missed.
Saddened to have lost two of my former teammates in recent days. Chris Nicholl was a great player & brilliant to play alongside for Northern Ireland. I didn’t play with Stan Bowles for long, but he was a very gifted player & a real character. My thoughts are with their families.
Today is the anniversary of a magical day at Wembley when I was manager of

Many of you have been asking me about the number 3⃣1⃣ and why it is significant to me. I've seen a few theories out there but here's the official explanation. I did say previously that it is not earth-shattering news, so don't say you weren't warned!

Lovely to see some old friends again at Carrow Road. I thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing about my days at

in 1980,

I had a fantastic time celebrating
@stmargaretscsc
's 25th Anniversary with
@Alantommo8
& John Fallon. The hospitality was 2nd to none at a brilliantly organised event - thanks to all involved. Ireland narrowly missing out
@rugbyworldcup
was the only disappointment on the night!
50 years ago today, I was honoured to play alongside the likes of Johnny Giles & Derek Dougan for Shamrock Rovers (an all Ireland XI) against a brilliant Brazilian side. We lost 4-3 but it was a fantastic game & I was delighted to swap shirts with Clodoaldo at full-time.

Experiencing my first Old Firm Derby in 2000. We won 6-2 and

On this day in 1981 I began the 1st of 3 spells at

Extraordinary football club. It was a privilege to manage Celtic, and in a sliding doors moment, we would have beaten Porto in the UEFA Cup Final.

Great experience in Champions League this season. Some games could have easily gone Celtic's way, the Club is definitely going in the right direction. A couple of strong additions never does any harm either.

At the time, I was interested in signing McGeady but it wasn't close to materialising. As for the most special Villa moment, perhaps the epic 6-4 League Cup Semi-Final 2nd leg win against Blackburn Rovers to take us to Wembley.
